Hi All
I am looking to buy a 1.9Dci 130 saloon megan 2, I am hoping for a 54 plate or newer. I have heard nightmare stories about turbos blowing leading to engine failure but wanted to ask for any opinions on here. I would be using the car mainly for motorway journeys and I read somewhere that the turbo problem is mainly due to the EGR valve and short town trips, it has been suggested to me that the problems were sorted on '53 and newer cars. Does anyone know if this is correct and if so what engine type should I look for and how do you identify what type of engine the car would have. I allready own a '05 megan grand scenic 1.6 and love the car so would like to buy another
Thanks
Chris

Hi
I think I was wrong and the 1.9 dCI is a 120 not 130

I'm no expert on the diesels but I do know that using the correct oil and filter is imperative as is FSH using these parts and, better still intermittent changes too.
There'll be others along in the near future that can offer much more advice
Yes, go for as new car as you can afford and certainly registrations after '53 did tend to have early issues sorted or at least bettered.

Re: 1.9 DCI megane 2 opinions before purchase
I was told renault sold the 130 for mainly motorway driving and the 120 for normal everyday. I have a 130 sport tourer which gets mainly short runs, however when the partical filter light comes on we're due a trip to the seaside to give it a blast and clear all the crap out (forced regeneration when cat gets up to temperature).
The cars on 120k and only had a couple of electrical niggles. Cambelt was done about 80k and oil changed once a year. In short get either model.

I think the 130 with the particle filter replaced the 120 to meet the Euro 4 emmissions criteria. Summer 2005 rings a bell.
Clio 1.5 dCi 88 Dynamique Tom Tom in Oyster Grey + Twingo GT in Pearl Black on a '58'.

Thanks for this I will look out for late 05 or newer but either way I think the 120 is only f tax band cheaper than the 1.6 scenic I have anyway
