very confusing this seem to be,as even by Renault CO2 guidelines, your car produces 120g/km which means the road tax will be £35! but I just checked a car like yours and the official CO2 emissions is 124g/km which means you go one level up on the tax bracket

The 106bhp engines fall into the £120 tax bracket, the less powerful ones are £35.

It actually depends on the weight of the car, and how that affects the C02 output. As far as I know the dCi106 3 door can be had with the panoramic roof and still duck into the £35 a year bracket. The 5 door without the panoramic roof is £35, but with the panoramic roof is up a bracket. The tourer, being heavier can't get down to £35, even without the panoramic roof. Compared to the cost of running a car (to me) it's not a huge extra expense - a tank and a half of diesel each year.

Hi Dansfishingmad,
I've just purchased an 08 DCI 106 and my road tax was £35 for the year.
Her C02 is on my DVLA V5C as 120 G/KM.
It's really confusing.
Regards,
Barney

the question remains is your car a tourer or normal hatchback?

124g/km, so its higher band my friend, the 1.5 106 will push out 120g/km but thats in sportshatch or hatch, 6 speed, the amount of carbon kicked out depends on a couple of factors,
kerbweight a sport tourer is a larger and therefore heavier motor i believe that the hatch models with the panoramic glass are also in a higher band due to weight (quite why you want to pay for glass over your head which you cant look out of because when driving to look at the sky will be a bit of a mistake)
also in consideration is the gearing, a six speed will sit at say 70mph at lower revs then a five speed, more revs more carbon.
so get a 1.5dci hatch with 6 speed gearbox and no pointless overhead glass and you too can pay Mr Brown and his crew just 35 quid a year,

This is gonna soud like i'm juping on the band wagon, but mine's a saloon dci100, and i have to cough up £120 per year. My CO2 is, wait for it... 121g/Km
So i have to pay an extra £85 a year for ONE extra gram of CO2.
Can anyone explain the justification for such a massive difference?
Best thing is, the official Renault bumph for my car states that it only puts out 119g/Km of CO2 so why does the government say different?

i had this a years ago when they introduced tax banding. the limit was 1100cc and my renault 5 was 1108cc. but i suppose there has to be a cut off at some point. there's only two things certain in life....death and taxes
