I'm thinking of buying a late 2004 Megane II 5 door 1.4 with 46K miles. Is there any particular issues I should look out for? It only has 2.5 months MOT left is this a worry?. What mileage does the timing belt need replaced or is that relavent for this model?

Usual advice for the timing belt is 60k or 5 years, whichever is soonest - so if a late 2004 then due soon!

I'm not sure on the 1.4, but there will be loads of discussions in the forum, so a search is worth doing.

Some 1.4 engines exhibit a tappet rattle but I don't think this causes any problems. Good for motorway cruising as the power comes in around 3,750rpm so overtaking isn't a problem. This engine doesn't have variable valve timing so you won't need to worry about dephaser pulley and solenoid failure.
