Hello
My name is Simon and im currently looking at buying a 3 door 1.6 VVT magane.
i have been looking at the 225 and RS models for a wile and having visited the Renault weekend at silverstone now for 3 years running i have gradually fallen in love with the magane. i have driven a fiat punto 8v for 2 years now and its time for something more substantial and grown up if you will

But before I buy I would like to clear a few things up. As I cannot afford ether of the sport models settling for the VVT is as much as I can do. Now I would like to lower the car simply just to eliminate the gab between tyre and car body as I find this is the only thing that lets the car down looks wise is this an easy job?
After this I may decide to play with the body work are there any options body kit wise for the VVT? What I mean is I notice some maganes have a small spoiler and some dont, i cant seem to find one model that does and another that doesn't are these available for all models?

so to sum up
A, is the car easy to lower similar to other cars?
B, are there any body kit options for the VVT
C, and is the spoiler i have seen model specific?

any help is very much apreciated!

thank you in advance!

SImon

Hey. Welcome to the club :)

As im not one for modifying cars (well when i was younger i was). Heres the quick answers before someone else comes along.

A) Yes, loads on here have slammed sussy and riding on 18's
B) Yes there are body kits but most look sh1t IMO. Colour coding is your best bet.
C) Get yourself the R26R spoiler its the best by far.

:)

Thank you thank you thank you!

i do agree having had a look around the kits that are available look a bit..... lego like is the only way i can put it lol
my dream is to own the RS or 225 but at the moment i cant afford ether so making the VVT look as good as poss is all i can focus on at the moment

So this spoiler, will it fit to most or models? This will be a definite buy if so!

Another quick one, is the VVT a good choice. There seems to be a lot to pick from when browsing the likes of auto trader etc and im somewhat confused as to what the main differences are.
does the "1.6 VVT SPORT" actually exist as many people are calling it this on auto-trader. and if so is there a difference to the "1.6 VVT"
iv seen dynamics, extremes, and loads more, i feel a bit lost lol

I had also looked at the 1.9 GT DCI but again, insurance is a bit steep.

i really appreciate any help received i know newbys can be annoying and the amount of questions i am asking wont help matters.

thank you toosh!

The R26R spoiler fits easily to all models. I had a price of about £117 from the stealers.
Best bet for a bodykit in my opinion is to look on ebay/scrap yards for a set of 225/R26 bumpers, they fit no problem as long as you get the correct 'phase' to match your car. All you need is a new arch liner and exhaust obviously.
Lowering the car is simple, Spax do 35mm drop springs for approx £100.
And as far as im aware the 1.6 Sport does not exist.

as far as i understand the 3 door was refered as sport hatch 5 door as hatch
probably just lazy sellers looking for an angle calling it a sport model
1.5 dci 86-106 great little engines and only £35 road tax

im loving everything thats been said so far

best bit is the fact the 225 and RS bumpers will fit. i was under the impression you could only fit the front. and had to get the rear fabricated.

right then. now all i need to do is find one to buy lol

i have 4k to spend and im sold on the 1.6 VVT. is this a good choice? is 4k an ok amount to find one of these? what age am i looking at realisticly with this ammount?

thank you very much for your help!

Simon

oh and by the way, am i missing a section on the forum with users photos? iv been looking for a good example of what im after but cant find anything at all

Mate there is no Photo section. Unfortunately you will have to trawl through Everything else and mods forums. They will be the most likely for photos.

Shameless link to my car  :-)

another few questions for anyone who can help :)

i am test driving a 1.6 vvt on wednesday, its a 3dr with a panaramic roof, i have falen in love with the roof.

my questions are,
are the panaramic roofs rare?
are there any comen falts?
can you still use roof bars on a panaramic? being a keen mountain and down hill mountain biker this is a must.
and what are your thoughts on them? it looks fantastic!

thank you!
Simon

The panoramic roof is not particularly rare. A lot of Dynamiques and Prestige models have them; they may well have been standard on these. It is likely your car will have 'total closure' so that the windows and roof will all close automatically if you deadlock the car (two quick presses on the keycard lock button). If you then want to return the roof to its former open position (as the switch would still be indicating open while the roof is now closed), you press the central button on the switch.

Using a roof rack is fine. Like many modern cars, the Megane has special fixings for a dedicated Renault roof rack and I imagine aftermarket suppliers of racks make models to fit the Megane. The roof doesn't raise very high above roof level so it looks as though it may even be possible to raise it with a loaded rack in place. You'll obviously have to make sure that no part of your bikes can contact the glass.

On this forum there have been odd mentions of the opening part of the sunroof catching on the fixed part so check this closely. Also, one or two people have had their roof inexplicably shatter which they have attributed to the sudden change of temperature caused by putting their A/C on MAX. One person had glass shower down on their young child. When I first read this, I considered getting clear or tinted film applied to the sunroof as I didn't fancy a neck full of toughened glass but it seems rare so I haven't bothered.

All in all I don't think the panoramic roof on the Megane is any more problematic than that of any other manufacturer.

all briliant! thank you very much indeed. i love the look of the pan roof and i intend to tint it in the near future (if i buy the car) i will have a good look for all you have said. on sunday it opened and closed fine but i didnt have a good close look.
the fact it also houses a roof bar facility is amazing news! i can not belive how much i love these meganes lol. and this forum is exelent! thank you to everyone for there help so far!

Why a 1.6 VVT?

The 2.0 VVT bridges the gap between 1.6 and 225.

6 speed gearbox, endless pulling power and a 0-60 time of 8.9 secs.

It kills the 1.6!!! I love mine :D
