I'm thinking about buying a Megane Convertible

Hello there, I am new to the forum. Would like some advice please. I am thinking about buying an 54 reg Megane Convertible, but the seller is saying the phaser pulley will need replacing in a few months time. Can anyone tell me what a phaser pulley is (I think also the timing belt will need replacing). It sounds expensive is it something to do with the roof? Would really appreciate some advice. Any advice in fact would be greatly appreciated in other words if anyone has one of these cars how have you found it to be? I am a girl, but a quick learner!

Its the dephaser pully, and the timing belt will need to be replaced, and may aswell replace the water pump...mine just done by Renault garage and cost £640, so haggle with price of car. Goodluck although mine has cost me a bit in the first couple of months, still love it.

Just to say thank you very much to you two for the replies which were very useful. Glad I asked before I bought the car; I still love the look of the convertible and it is handy having the 4 seats as well.
