Advice on buying

Postby Stewie » Mon May 24, 2010 9:16 pm

I have found a 1.6 VVT Dynamique 3dr that I really like the look of. It is a '54 plate, registered 25/1/2005 and with 43391miles on the clock. I have been doing a bit of research on here and see the general faults seem to be with the dephaser pully (expensive I guess), the windows and coil packs. I am replacing a fiat Stilo which has had all 4 coil packs go over the last 18 months so know how much fun that is!

Basically as the car is over 5 years old now should these problems have shown up and been fixed or should I still be worried? Would appreciate any advice as I am going to take a look at it on Wednesday.

Thanks

You want as much history frfom the seller as you can, invoices and the like I mean not just word of mouth. You could check the reg on Renault UK to make sure that it's had any recall work done, then of course you need someone that knows what they're doing to look at it with you and finally if you can get any warranty it's a bonus.

More than likely it's a car which was manufactured in 2004 which should have had a lot of the teething problems sorted out during manufacture as long as it's not a late registered 2003 car, teething problems don't include the dephaser though.

Remember the car game is very much buyer beware, if it doesn't feel right don't do it, only you can make that call.
