Hello all, I have read much of this forum with great interest, as I am considering buying an 07 Megane Dci here in Oz (in fact very close).
The other contender is the Mazda 3 turbo diesel.
The question I want to ask is in relation to the Particulate filter (which both the Renault and the Mazda are equiped with here to meet euro iv) and the process of burning off the built up particles. The Mazda employs a pressure sensor to monitor backpressure and once it gets to a certain level enriches the fuel supply and closes the EGR increasing exhaust temperature to facilitate the burn.
I cannot find anything relating to the Renault solution for the problem.
Firstly, does it simply rely on fast highway driving to get to the required temperature?
Secondly, if this is the case, what sort of distance/speed needs to be obtained to do the job?
Also, before you say it, we have no choice of a non-FAP version here, which you seem to have in the UK!
Any knowledge would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bohun

Thanks Gav/IainMW
Had read the other post previously but not followed the link to the renault UK site, which specifies speed/time for the regeneration. Also I noted that the renault UK site is a lot better than the Reanult AU site.........
Thanks heaps for your response, this info makes the decision easier, as we are only semi-urban and have no problem with the type of driving required.
We have decided on the Megane now and are currently haggling with dealers
Good to know you also get a warning light letting you know that you need to go for a quick drive up your nearest highway. Would be worse to find out via poor performance due to a clogged filter.
Just so it is here for anyone reading this thread here is bit I found useful from renault uk
"the vehicle needs to be travelling at more than 50 mph. This is known as the FAP regeneration phase and can last up to 20 minutes or until the warning light goes out. "
Thanks all and thanks for the welcome!
