Strange problem with air-con

Hi all. I've got a 54 plate 1.6 and when I bought it I was told that the air con gas needed to be re filled. So I took it to the Halfords Auto centre nearby, £50 later and I'm told it's all done and various checks done also. However- the air con seems to only work for about 10 mins then although the light on the switch remains lit, the cold air gets warm (or warmer than air con temp). Yet if I park up for a bit then go out again it does the same again. Works for the 1st 10 mins then gets warm again. I have already taken it back but am now told they need it for a whole day to test all components etc. any ideas to save me more money!!?
