tuning box advise

Postby iash101 » Sun Feb 22, 2009 5:26 pm

Hi there!!
Iv had a tuning box fitted to my 1.9 dci 54 plate for the last 6 months and must say i was pleased with performance increase but after driving the car today it seems to have stoped working.IV tried removing and reinstalling but seems to make only slight improvment if any im 99%sure ist not in my head as some one sugested I might be just to used to the extra power. My question for you guys is has anyone got a kingquick dcr box fitted iff so.are they any good? or has any one got any sugestions of what box to buy without spending too much cash!!!
cheers iash101

my opinion is that a remap is better than a tuning box, a tuning box just makes ur ECU think thats the engine is colder than what it actualy is, makeing the car force more fuel into the engine giving the extra power.

a remap changes the mapping settings already on the ECU, this changes how much air fuel, how long the explosion lasts etc etc which is better for the car rather than having it 'over fuel' the cycilinders, my advice would be to get the car remapped, but before you do get it serviced

also remaps are virtualy undetectable, unless done on a rolling road.

We are doing tuning boxes for £150 a remap is better but a tuning box is easier as you can fit it your self remove it and it can often be reprogrammed for a different vehicle, our tuning boxes are electronic and work on common rail presssure, they are not a resistor in a box that fools the engine to tell the ecu its running cold. www.tdperformance.co.uk

How much would a full remap be?
I've seen one of your guys in lincoln, driving a Focus.

The guy said he could put a custom built exhaust on, a BMC filter then the remap to take it to around 160-175 BHP, which would be monumentally faster.

If you guys could beat the prices i dont see why i wouldn't come to you!
The tuning boxes; what do they do, i thought they put more fuel in, but surely that would be bad mix of fuel and air?

I have written exactly how the tuning box works at the bottom of the liked post above.
I do not know who you seen in lincoln we have a guy who does mobile remaps in sheffield but he obviously could not fit an exhaust etc!
The remap would cost a maximum of £300 poss cheaper depending on who which distributor does it.
