Engine Remap... Megane 1.9dci (Your Experiences)

Postby Renaultshearer7 » Fri Sep 19, 2008 10:43 am

Hi,
I own i 120bhp megane 1.9 dci, i like the current output but i would like some more power out of it

So has anyone had a remap, if so what kind of performance have you had out of it.

And where is the best companies to take it to.

Can you all leave your personal experiences of your remap... and also leave pro's and con's about having your car tuned up.

Also is it really worth having a remap done!!!

Those results aside, I can definitely notice the difference with the digital power box on, the car feels gutless without it on. I'm on 88,000 miles now with no major problems.

Cons:

- More smoke under hard acceleration

- Definitely no hard acceleration in cold weather in the higher gears under 2000RPM otherwise I get what I can only describe as some sort of drivetrain judder from the passenger side of the car. (Probably the clutch then) This will happen from 1600 to approx 2000rpm.

Neutral Comments:

- I know these boxes claim no extra stress on the engine, but what about the poor clutch and gearbox? I do not believe the extra torque created by these boxes are doing those parts any favours in the long run.
- These boxes also claim better fuel economy. My economy has stayed the same (manually calculated after each fill up), but so has my driving style.
- My trip computer is no longer accurate for fuel consumption (I knew this would happen before I purchased the box)
- I removed and inspected my EGR valve at 81,000 miles, it was clean.

I have a Kingquick tuning module on the Laguna and it makes a big difference to performance and economy (calculated not trip computer) www.kingquick.co.uk

2.0dCi 150bhp as standard
178bhp quoted with the unit fitted (can't prove this though but it sure as hell feels a lot quicker and smoother)

37mpg - 43mpg standard depending on driving style and distance, 44mpg - 55mpg as before but with unit fitted.

Don't really hammer the car so I'm not too concerned about extra stress on the clutch/gearbox etc...

In my opinion it's worth it.
Make improvements, not excuses!

Confucius tells: Only a very brave man puts a box into that touchy diva, the 1,9 dCi ;-)

Only my opinion: I really think it would improve performance no end, but having learned how prone to engine failure this 1,9 dCi is I would no longer have the ba..s to put a chip in....

Hi, i have been looking at angel tuning for an ecu remap... are there any real negative aspects to having an ecu remap... eg Emissions and engine problems like extra stress on the turbo and mot problems.

Also with a remap what time could i get from 0-60 as the standard 120bhp would get to 60 in 10.1 seconds... would i see a great improvement with the remap.
And finally would it make the car that much quicker as and extra 30 bhp would mean the car would have 150 bhp.

I am looking into a similar thing for my GT DCi... spoke to a guy from www.rapidremap.co.uk and he answered a load of my questions.

He said that as long as a good experienced company did the remap it shouldnt cause any extra wear.

I asked whether he would suggest oil changes more regularly, but he said that sticking to normal service intervals would be fine. But could change more regularly in any car to keep it in top condition.

He said that extra power and torque had the ability to wear the clutch quicker, but he said this would only be an issue if you tried to drive like an F1 driver all the time.

I am still undecided as I would like to hear some comments from someone "in the know" who is impartial and does not work for one of these companies who at the end of the day arent going to slag off their own products / services.

I was offered an eco tune, increasing power by 25-30bhp and torque by 45-50nm but also returning 15-20% better economy... however they also do a power tune which would return 50-55bhp extra and take the torque from 340nm up to 450nm!!!

I would personally be too scared to go for the second one, but the first would bring my performance in line with the 175 Renaultsport car using the same engine... so the extra 25-30bhp in a sport hatch translates into about 0.7 seconds off 0-60....

I can't remember how I know this info, and how accurate it is but from what I know the diesel tuning boxes add maybe 10% extra hp and torque due to the box only adding extra fuel. ECU remaps can add about 30% hp and torque because turbo boost pressures are altered along with fuel injection pressures etc.

In my opinion any of these mods will have extra wear on the drive train such as clutch, gearbox and driveshafts but I would think that the turbo is under extra stress due to the altered boost pressures of an ECU remap.

Hi i have had mine remapped and had no issses at all it drives perfect just was told to take it easy until it warms up and not to boot it while cold.
I paid £150 for my 1.9dci megane and £150 for my Megane 1.9 scenic but both drive a lot better. :rock
You talk about remapping boxes where can these be purchased from and which sort is the best to get ? :conf
Can mine be put back to standard with these boxes or does the company i purchased the remap from have to do that? :conf

I wouldnt bother with the Tuning Boxes, go for a Remap !

Mine has been done at Pendle Performance, an extra 35bhp and 55lb/ft 8)

The car is smoother to drive and a hell of a lot quicker to boot :D
