I was looking at getting my windows tinted this weekend, I phoned my insurance today (direct line) to see if i'd have to pay an additional premium. Im 19 and when I gave them my policy details, they just said I have to be over 25 to modify my car. Has anyone else had the same problem with their insurance companies? What did u do to get around it? In the end I asked to speak to a manager and hes looking into it for me and calling me back on friday. I wouldnt mind but they said this when I was renewing my insurance on my last car which I had modified :banghead , with additional spoiler etc but in the end the policy was still renewed.

Mike :?

tell them you want a refund and go somewhere else if you're not happy with them

Or just dont tell them, and plead ignorance, ie "i bought the car like that, i was under the impression it was factory fit"

Had my call back, they will be happy to insure me, I even had the premium waived for amending my insurance.

Creating a fuss really works :-)

Booked my car in for sunday to get my windows tinted

i had this also with direct line and created so much fuss that when it came to renewing i switched to adrian flux - who dont charge to admend the policy and will insure all mods (like for like)

Anything I do to the car is cool as long as it doesnt increase total hp by more than 10% (if not additional premium to pay) and all stereo etc insured just got to keep original receipts

So after all the fuss I had with Direct Line - I am so happy now I switched to Adrian Flux !!

here in germany insurers dont care about what tinted windows or spoilers or whatever you have.....you can do what you want with your car. when increasing hp of course you have to have it registered in your car papers and thus normally insurence fees increase as well....
