Sunroof

Postby mike123 » Sat May 17, 2008 5:03 pm

When i was buying my megane, i had a choice of 2 as I wanted a 3 door and the majority had 5. There was a 54 reg with the panaromric sunroof, or a 06 face model without the sunroof. I chose the 06 model because its the newer model and had all the same features apart from the sunroof. Now as its getting warmer, although I have aircon I was thinking of looking in to getting a sunroof added. Would this be a costly job do u think???

you would basically have to have the interior trim removed which would be ok - and then you need to cut into the skin of the roof - probably add some bracing to support the mechanism and motors and then somehow add a control switch like the original renault one

Personally wouldnt bother as alot could go wrong - asked a few bodyshops in my area and all said too risky so couldnt guarantee a good job

to get a proper ren one installed you'll be looking at far too much money. you can get aftermarket ones but they never look right imo

The Megane without the sunroof has a metal bar between the center pillars from what I've seen.

My question...are there any structural differences between the Meg with the SSunroof and the one without?

Yes there are! The roof of the sunroof version has different reinforcements.

I tried to have a Webasto roof installed in my Megane but it's not possible due to the 'metal bar'!!
For structural reasons, Renault prohibits it to be taken away (and for good reason). So no self-respecting company would install an aftermaret sunroof in the car, at least no Webasto sunroofs.

Unfortunately, when I bought the car secondhand, I first checked the possibility of the aftermarket install on the Webasto website. It was possible.
I bought the car and went to the company that installed the same roof in my Clio but then it soon was clear that they couldn't install it in the Megane, no single roof was possible. :-( :-(
They contacted Webasto and they confirmed it's not possible (and they said to change the website....)

The only company I found out that would manufacture an aftermarket sunroof for the Megane II is Ellermeyer. Their sunroof has reinforcements which they claim, but after all that I heard, I don't want them to cut in the structure of my roof anymore. One of the major reasons I bought a Renault was for safety.
Their sunroof was too expensive for me anyway.

So my next Megane (or Scenic for that matter) has the factory fitted sunroof option for sure!

Cheers for the reply Renier! :)

I've recently had the chanse to look at a damaged Meg with a factory sunroof that had the roof naked. It also has a reinforcement metal bar but it's a little further back thatn in a Meg without a factory sunroof...I'm guesing if one could get a hold of a damaged Meg a swap could be made...problem is not many shops would be willing to do this...:(

Could you give me more detalils about Ellermeyer please? I really want a sunroof...

Hi, I don't think any self respecting company would want to burn their hands on the reinforcing bar...

Just type in Ellermeyer on google and you will find plenty info

more agro than its worth havin a sun roof put in id say,(but then ive already got one lol) but nust admit i missed it when i had my golf with out one, get your aircon regassed to fridge temp and live with it mate could end up costing a frotune for something they wont guarantee will work!! easiest option i would say though would be a pop up sun roof like in the older fords where they just angle up or lift out? not as fancy but still do the job and dont need motor or extra bracing just cut hole stick seals in and hinges and drop glass in place but id say leave it personally or look at swapping for one with one already would prob be more cost efficient

I agree. Although it is great to have a sunroof (had it in the Clio and in my previous and current Twingo :D ), you will only us it part of the time.

Better to stick with it and trade in the Megane after a few years for one with the factory installed roof... Something to look forward to...
