its a bit hard..

Postby Ton » Sun Mar 30, 2008 12:32 pm

Hi guys! I have a lil problem, iv searched through posts on how to get the renault gear knob off, iv pulled and twisted the thing to high heaven and it still wont come off! anybody got a secret way of getting it off?

Its a 55 reg and the knob has like an overhang at the top, iv seen some previous models with just a rounded top. If that makes a difference?

Cheers

Not seen the gear knob of a 55 reg, but have removed them from a Mk1 Clio, 2 x Mk2 clios and a Mk1 Megane.

The first one I had to take the top part of the gear knob off which revealed a bolt, which when undone let you remove it easily.

All of the others required nothing more than a bit or guts and brute force...

They were prety difficult to get off but I used a device called a Boa-constrictor (desgned to easily remove jar lids or anything else that twists)

Failing that a mechanic / garage might be able to tell you exactly how it is fitted and therefore removed...

Good Luck! :)

i had a 55 plate oasis and changed the knob by pulling straight up
yes it was stiff but came off in the end
you could try an open end spanner under it and hit with a hammer from below
good luck

I got it off!!! didnt take much, mounted the central armrest n gave it a tug, nearly smashed it into the sunroof in the process! and after all that work, the gear knob dont ruddy fit!! didnt realise it was only renault parts that would fit on it, wondered why no1 on here had aftermarket knobs! down to the breakers yard i go!

Just bought an aftermarket universal knob (please don't), so I'm going to have a go at fitting that today. The one already in the car is pitiful and spoils the look of the interior. The top of the knob has worn smooth and plain through it's years of handling.

Wish me luck!
