Hello
I have a wonderful Megane II 2007 1.6 16V (85kW). It drives fine, but when I go on the highway my rpm is simply to high to drive. I have 100km/h at 3000rpm in 5th gear and 116km/h at 3500 rpm. It seems that I have the same gearbox as used on 1.4 16V Modus, which is, in my opinion to short. The engine have enough power to go 10-20km/h more in 5th gear (max torque 150Nm at 4200). I would like to know which gearboxes would fit my Megane (1.8 16V engine, or gearboxes with 6th gear). I was checking gear ratios and it seems that ideal would be TL4 (2WD) diesel or JB3-952/938, but I am not sure if they would fit mechanically. Does anybody have the gearboxes gearratio specifications and knows which models would fit my Megane?
GEARBOX change on MEGANE II 1.6 16V (longer 5th gear or 6th gear)

Hello,
I have the same problem, and was looking for the same thing.
I know this was posted here a long time ago, but if in the meantime anyone found out what gearbox could be fitted on my megane would be great if you could share!

Re: GEARBOX change on MEGANE II 1.6 16V (longer 5th gear or 6th gear)
You can normally install all 5th gear-wheel pairs with a longer ratio from all JH3/JR5/JB3/JC5 gear boxes.
Normally you should have a JH3-142 gear box with the ratio of 37/33 for the 5th. (see page 21 here: https://philch.free.fr/clio/clio3/MR392CLIO2.pdf )
If you would install for example the 39/32 pair the 5th would be 9% longer (9% lower rpm at same speed) and the 39/31 pair would be about 12% longer.
The 6-speed manual gear box from the ScenicII Ph.2 1.6 16v/ Megane III 1.6 16v seems not to fit as the engine-block has a different part number, as fly wheel, clutch, and drive shafts do, too.
