hi guys, i know this is my first post, but i have been following this thread with interest.
i bought a megane 1.4 for my girlfriend (my 05), and have put the renaultsport bumpers and exhaust etc on for her.
i have also bought the newer rear lights, now as said they "slot in" fine, but the connecters and short loom are totally different.
paul5765 said you cant get the "loom" from renault, ?? i have from mill lane renault aldershot, but here lies my problem, the new short loom that fits the new rear lights, has all the wires coloured purple?? (bazare)
and the "old" 05 lights/short loom are multi coloured (as i remember old car wiring)
these short looms were very cheap, and means you dont have to mess about with pins etc (leading possibly to shorts etc)
BUT...does anybody know which wires i need to scotch lock the "purple ones" to??
and why have renault made them all purple (other than to monopolise the work)

nice forum guys.

Right, finished also the left unit! Everything is working now. :D :D

Here are some pics and a complete pinout of the original lights and the new lights, this should save you all a lot of work...

I removed part of the plastic of the plug holder on the new units and soldered the wire from a mini ISO plug set to the pins. These connections have all been isolated with heat shrink tube. I then connected the new wires to the wiring of the original lights with fastlocks.

For the pinout of the new lights, I used the info on the German forum, everything was correct, so saved me a lot of work. For the pinout of the original lights, I used the old fashioned way of testing with a 12 Volt meter untill I had all wires tested and mapped.

hi again, i dont want to come across as anal, or stroppy on only my second post, but these photos and wiring look un proffesional, i would also think that they will cause all sorts of shorts and problems come the winter.
why not simply buy the short loom designed for the new lights??
then just scotch lock (or better solder) them to the "old" short loom, would look proffesional (almost factory) and create no problems?
just my thoughts guys.
youve got a great car...why bodge it.

Glad you admire my hard work...

I don't claim to be a professional electrician, but I garantee you that everything is perfectly save and working as it should.

Of course I've asked the dealer if a cable set was available when ordering the new lights, but they said it wasn't, therefore I came up with this solution.

I've kept the original wiring with the original plugs on the car intact, only added the new wiring. As I've kept the original lights as well, I can easily swap them back when I want to, for example when selling the car. I still have time to think about this as I don't have any plans in that direction.

With regard to the possibility of shorts, I'me not afraid of this as all connections are properly soldered and isolated. All connections have been tested and I'me very confident about this.

no idea why you cant get the short loom, its part number : 7701477989
( 6uc170 )

obviously you need 2 of.

didnt mean to offend, i just didnt like the look of the plug housing all cut up etc.
but glad it worked for you.
good luck.

It doen't matter, I can't return the plug housing to it's original state  so these looms won't be of any value for me anymore.
But perhaps somebody else can use the part number and give it a try.

Once fitted, you don't see the cut up plug housing, so I didn't care about that. It's working, that's the most important .

this is awesome , im so doing this. now why dont you post your guide with your "short loom" method , with pics to go along with it? it would be a great help to myself and other people.
think about it. with your help , all old lights could be replaced with cool new ones. the ball is in your court.

ok, here are some pics, showing the newer rear lights with the correct connectors/short loom, the part numbers are as above in previous post.
all you have to do is connect with scotch loc, or to be more proffesional, solder them where renault do.
you can use the colour chart, kindly supplied by renier, as all the new wires are purple (naughty of renault that i think)
then it all just slots in....perfect job.

Just phoned my dealer and gave him your part number for the short loom: 7701477989. He couldn't find it in his system, "unknown item".

nice one Dr Dave! so the short loom connects to the light via the connector, and then you have to solder the other end to the cars loom. is this correct?

I've used fastlocks to make the connection to the original wiring. Very easy and a good connection. And easy to remove afterwards.
