Auto to Manual Gearbox Conversion

Please excuse me if this has been raised before, but this is my first post ! I have a 2004 1.6 VVT tourer with a DP0 auto gearbox showing 5 fault codes and is in limp mode. In expolring options, Is it possible to convert the troublesome DPO gearbox to a manual gearbox by use of a doner car. Obviously apart from the work involved, I am concerned about any potential electronic issues, such as the existing cars ECU function and compatability with the manual gearbox if the auto gearbox ECU etc was removed. Anyone completed the conversion or any thoughts as to potential difficulties ?
