Has anyone experienced any problems with aftermarket HID's (aside from the legality issues)?
I fitted a set to mine in January and one ballast seems to have failed. Even when they were working, they almost never came on together - one would come on and then I'd have to switch them off / on again to get both working.
And they were pretty unstable too when warming up - use to flicker but then settle and work ok.
The units are still under warranty, however, I am now being told by the seller that the 2005 Megane has a CanBus system so I need CanBus ballasts or a decoder but that's not guaranteed to work.
Question is, is the car CanBus? How do I check? If I go by the head unit fitted (Update List) then that has elements of CanBus I believe....

Re: HID's / CanBus?
I have a non canbus kit fitted and Never had any problems..
I have a 03 megane but I believe that the 05 is the same..
Canbus are only needed if you get the "bulb blow" message
I think you should buy a new kit or ballast

I've bought new ballasts - just need the weather to pick up before I get the bumper off to change both (need to replace washer pump anyway and a few other bits to do)

Re: HID's / CanBus?
Turns out it was the bulb (burner) itself that was blown.
I'm using H7C bulbs which are shorter and also have a reduced life (never had a problem wih them in my Alfa for 3 years). Would a standard H7 hid bulb fit ok without fowling anything (for next time!)?
