Wheel Offset (Again!!) - 18" Alloys

Postby ikhan » Thu Nov 24, 2011 3:23 pm

I've been scouring the forum and the net and it's given me a headache! :grin

With 18" wheels, what offset should I be getting? I was hoping to get the Inovit Rapids but no one in the UK sems to have any in stock and there is no fixed production date available.

I've found another set of wheels that I like, but they are 8j with an offset of 38mm, the forum talks about the offset being 45-49mm so I'm a bit confused.

So, would 8j wheels with a 38mm offset wheels fit no problems (car is lowered 45mm) without any scrubbage??

For those of you already running 18's, what offsets have you got?

Thanks in anticipation

They will fit no problem at all. I am running 8 inch wide with an offset of 38 i think, plus I have 20mm spacers all round. The wheels are still well inboard of the arches with no rubbing at all.

tbh you would really have to be going some to acheive any rubbing on a Megane.

Ah, thanks... these are 8" wide as well so that was another thing I was worried about.

Might also get 20mm spacers at a later date.

Are you running 225's or 235's on those? And what tyre pressure you runing them at?

225 tyres at 30 psi all round. I was running a higher pressure in the front two but found they were wearing more on the centre of the tread, indicating too high a pressure.

Mostly motorway and town roads. They seem to be wearing evenly with that pressure.

I suppose it will be a bit of trial and error. I was running my 17's on my Alfa at 37psi with no problems and even wear. I'm thinking 30 would be too low and would probably cause the rim damage over pot holes - no matter how hard you try, you just can't avoid every single one lol. My mate use to inflate his 17's on his Honda to 30-32, and the tyres use to deform / bulge through lack of usage

Just ordered my wheels.

I did finally get a date for the Inovit Rapids as 12th January 2012 and I put my name down for those, but then I came across a local Megane with those wheels fitted and they looked absolutely shite!

Needless to say, I've ordered something different and hope these will look a bit better.

Will post pics once the wheels are on as the car will be finished at that point (bar the window tints). Wheels will be delivered next week though...
