I've fitted an after market head unit so the radio controls are now redundant, I was thinking of just splicing the relevant wires together with the resistors in but unsure if it would work properly.
If this isn't possible, could you get away with just wiring the + and - to say a window rocker switch tyat i could install somewhere discreet or do you need a switch capable of using all of the functions? Any advice would be much appreciated :-)

I dont think you could slice into the radio control as you wont know what wire is for what without a lot of tracing. As for the + and - only you could just put them on a rocker switch but you wont have the recal and cancel functions which you can live without.

Cheers for the advice guys, going to pick up the bits this weekend and give it a go over the next few weeks. Going to use the standard radio controls as suggested earlier in the thread.

Hi,

just done the mod all went smoothly till i had all the car back together and tried to start it, it now just comes up that the steering is locked and will not start.

Dont know why it wont unlock and cant even get the air bag back off to look as the stering is locked witht he hole at the back blocked.

Any one got any ideas?

Did this mod using the existing stereo control tonight and although it works, I can only get the + function to work, the -, recall and cancel do not work. Anybody have any clues as to what I have done wrong? I wired the 3 wires with resistors in to the brown wire and the wire with no resistor into the pink wire on the connector block, have I got these the wrong way round?

weee hey,

its all in and working a treat, got it done with the buttons on the steering wheel, its doable by soldering the ribbon cable but i would advise to by a new slip ring unit with the cruise control cables already in and then its just all plug and play (thats if you can find one cheap enough LOL)

Any way its all smart now.

Let me get this in my head.

If you buy the OE parts off the first page, do you need the resistors?

Or are there more parts required?

having not purchased the car yet, its a bit pie in the sky I know.

but doing 30k a year, i want the thing done asap.

Nope if you buy the parts then you won't need any resistors as the buttons have built in resistance :-)

Whats my options now?

expence of another wheel and airbag?

Use etra radio controls and fit on the left hand side?

You wouldn't need another steering wheel, :) just a new airbag and buttons, but remember you can sell your old airbag so that will reduce the overall costs! :-)

Have a really good look!
I'm afraid if you don't have the plug then you don't have the wiring and it's not feasible to do..

I've tried looking and i dont think ive got the plug, seems crazy that my dci tourer doesn't have it! I would really benefit as we go on plenty days out, but if its not meant to be...

What age and spec is it? Does seem strange it doesn't have it, seems almost random the ones that do have/don't have the wiring.

Like I said to ad the loom to fit the proper Renault stuff would be unreadable, you can however buy aftermarket cc kits that could be an option?

Mines a mk2 phase 1 '06 dynamique 130 dci, seems to come with everything apart from cruise control. I'm not sure i'd personally go down the aftermarket route or chopping wires, just standard plug in and play looks easy enough for even me to do. In regards to the plug i went to a guy who was breaking his megane and his plug was taped to another wire, mine however has no plug taped to a wire.
