No it's not the same, but a similar concept.

Obviously petrols still have the edge in terms of outright performance in some circumstances. But to see how diesels have caught up, and in some departments overtaken petrols, just do a comparison of the BMW 335d and the 335i. The Jaguar XF S is a good example aswell.

When you can get that sort of performance AND good fuel economy, where are the downsides?

List of last 5 years winners of Le Mans 24 hours are they not diesel? where is the high performance petrol oh yes in garage funked

End of post was cut off for some reason
If you want a faster car buy a faster car imho But the increases in diesel technology has increased to a point where they are just as powerfull as the petrol counterpart.
A turbo'd petrol will benefit from basic tuning air filter exhaust ect more than its diesel relative
Oh and yes i do drive one a 2010 clio dci for everyday and a nissan skyline R32 for weekends

Boomstyliemikey wrote:is a dcat the same as a dpf removal? if so have a look at my post, i got one done. Gotta agree with anthony tho, its worth having it done, if done properly. If not its a F*cking nightmare!!!!

dpf is the diesel particle filter and it is recommended to remove it cause if ya leave it in can cause awful bother unless ur doin motorway miles and giv the engine a gd revvin. the 130 bhp engine <05 is the onli engine to hav a dpf. the cat is a similar thing. the cat is a flow through filter and the dpf cleans the air by forcing gas to flow through it.

have to agree with you eddie. do not remove the cat. it affects backpressure on the turbo too much. i had it done to my 1.9 dci and it made a real balls of it tbh. car went into limp mode more times than enuf even with a remap. i got the middle knocked out of mine cause cudnt get a decat pipe for mine. made the car loud at idle and a real swirly echoey noise from the turbo ad idle. on the pull sounded reali well but went into limp mode sumtyms. wouldnt reccommend removing cat at all. i hav my 1.9 dci with the cat in and all other boxes behind that removed. passes mot np and still givs enuf backpressure for the turbo to spool up nicely and nice noise too. my advice is to do the same with ur 1.5 dci and performance panel filter and remap when u have work dun to exhaust and air intake. my 1.9 dci shifts well!

hope this helps

I put my car onto the lifts on saturday for the tyres and I realised my car hasnt got a cat! :S for some reason its a straight pipe from the back box to the engine.

Unless its hidden which I doubt.

All 1.5 dCi engines have a catalytic converter. It is bolted on the turbocharger, you can see it behind the engine. Only (some of) newer K9K engines (Megane III) have a DPF.
