dpf removal

Postby Boomstyliemikey » Wed Jan 26, 2011 3:11 pm

So i got my soot filter regenerated 2 months ago when I bought the car off Renault. Its come up again as regenerate soot filter and when I took it back to them apparently they wanna charge me £189. I'm not paying almost £200 every couple of months for them to do this so decided to get it removed. At first i was getting quotes for £450 but after ringing round I've managed to get it done for £150 (cheaper than what renault were charging to just regenerate it) Getting to done tomorrow so will let u know how it goes

My local dealer told me to drive at least 15miles above 50mph(keep revs above 2000rpm) and this cures it-well it has done for me. I don't do long trips so once a month I just blast it down the motorway for 25 miles or so. I've only had the "regenerate soot filter" warning twice in 12 months and the last time an 8 mile trip home from work cured it.

the cars been remapped but since the dpf removal it flys. Even the guy who removed it was shocked how quick it moves. It has also really helped on mileage. I was getting quotes for £450 then I tried the guy who remapped the car and he said £300. I think I was just lucky and got a really good deal. In theory I was told you shouldnt pay any more that £100 to the DPF taken off the ECU and £60 to physically remove it so maybe cheaper going to two different places.

Aaaah right I think I may have to look around and see if can find some were cheap to do it lol. Thought it may improve performance as it must block the exit pipe slightly to collect the soot.

I think some re-mapping firms include a firmware change to the ECU to ignore the DPF. I don't know if it needs physically removing, however.

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!

So you can now have it removed and not have "check emissions" on your dash?

I wanted this done, just didn't like the idea of the warning light (Would do me head in)

You can either have them just remove it off the ecu so no warning light will come on. However you wont notice any gains and in the long run will probably nack ur car up. Or you can actually have the DPF physically removed and taken off the ecu so no warning light will come on and sorts the problem out permanently

Thanks, Who removed it off the ecu for you? I know even K-tec say they are still waiting for an ecu upgrade to stop the error.

Cheers
