Dark Windows

Postby wanda » Mon Sep 06, 2010 11:14 am

Am I wrong or miss informed. I thought we are not allowed to darken the front passenger and drivers window with tints. I just saw someone who passed their MOT with very dark tints?

Very confusing, I wanted to do that but was told I wasn't allowed legally. :conf

https://www.ukmotorists.com/tinted%20windows.asp

"Why are tinted windows not included in the MOT test?
Excessively tinted glass is seen as a serious issue but one which currently affects only a small number of the 24 million vehicles tested annually. To include this item in the MOT test would require all 18,000 garages to incur expenditure on special test equipment and the time taken to carry out an MOT would increase. The MOT fee would have to be raised to cover the extra time and investment.

This extra cost would affect all motorists - all for a small number of vehicles. With the current levels of offending, roadside enforcement is a better route as it targets the offenders while minimising the cost and inconvenience to compliant road users. "

you aren't allowed legally. sure you can do it and drive around. you may never get stopped, but it is illegal.
if you do get pulled, it can vary on your punishment depending how dark it is.
usually it's a fine. sometimes they make your take it off at the side of the road.

I have mine done all round. In 80%. Never had a word said even when stopped by the fuzz.

I have my MOT on the 20th so will have to strip them off. Failed last year for them.

As it only takes 20mins to do a window its not a big deal to take it off and reapply.

Things that i would think are not legal with my car and never an eyelid battered are:

Pressed 'French' Number Plate.
Full tint all round
No Tax/Mot displayed.
Ride hight.
Factroy Hids but no washers.
No CAT.

if it's easier, can't you just take the windows out?
the testers cant test what isn't there.

it worked for my boss who's rear seat belts got chewed up by the dog. so he took the rear seats out.

I have wondered about just putting the windows down and removing the fuse.

Then just playing dumb...
