Sports/Uprated Clutch

Postby downsyndromedhorse » Tue Aug 31, 2010 1:35 pm

Afternoon Boys and Girls,

Been looking into getting an uprated clutch for my Megane; just for futures sake of extra power and what not.
Its not easy to find a clutch kit online for the 1.9 so i emailed a few companies.

Got a quote back today for a ceramic clutch kit to be made up specially for the car; for £280.
Now, as i cant find another one online, does anyone know if thats a good price?

Its from these guys, they seem to know what they're doing.

Not sure, but i dont think anyones put an uprated clutch in a meg yet have they?

I don't know its £50 for a normal kit, how much to fit it though? The ST220 is about £450 for a complete clutch kit including flywheel so I really dunno if thats good or not.

Well they wanted £180 to fit, but i think i could get a lower quote than that. It was looking at about £450-£500 to supply and fit.

I could get the clutch then fit it myself, but not done a clutch before! haha.
I might just keep the power at what it is now, then replace with the standard. I'm thinking the cars fast enough as she is. However, if anyone does want a 1.9 uprated clutch, now you know where to get one!!

Tell me about it!

I looked at that website you posted, the £158 for 1.5dci don't seem so bad for a sports clutch.

Yeah they dont make a 1.9 one for off the shelf, which is why i assumed the big leap in price from £158 on the 1.5.
If it was £158 i'd definately get one, but unless the clutch goes then i think i'll leave it as it is with the standard.

IMO pointless investment.

Its a 1.9 derv megane no matter what you do it will be SLOW.

Fit a HX30 Holset turbo and you MAY be going somewhere.

I was gonna say, what does an upgraded clutch do?? What improvement does it do to the cars performance?

I've thought about it and can't think of anything! :?

Well my clutch is on its way out, does need replacing. instead of £140 for a standard, £158 for a sports one aint bad.

Yes but what does the sports clutch do that a standard one doesn't?!

It can take more power, higher revs, higher torque and higher temps. In theory it should last longer than your standard one aswell.
To be honest, unless your thinking of chucking loads of power into the car, the uprated clutch wont be that useful to you.

And the 1.9 is not a car to underestimate paddy, i've out ran many cars on the motorway, including a 2litre megane!!! Not the sport obviously. Off the line, its a diesel, but get it rolling and it pulls very well!! Kept up with a mondeo ST the other day, and was overtaking quicker than it. The time for diesels to over throw petrols is coming!!!!

I now own both - I won't be getting rid of a petrol car anytime soon though! I like the fact you can start a petrol and hardly realise its even running, there have been times I've gotten out and wondered why the car wouldn't lock - yep because ive left it running. I'm a loon - but they are soooooooooooooooo quiet. I like the torque of diesels but the black smoke shows every time I'm trying to welly it in a diesel!

It makes smooth driving near on impossible.

Paddy, you really ought to get back into a diesel - surely you can't forget the acceleration from around 2k to 3k that the torque provides - it's amazing. I tow a caravan on a regular basis and the only thing that stops me entering lane 3 on the motorway is that it is illegal. It's easy to forget the thing is attached. 80 - 90 mph with no problem if you don't watch out - and dangerous speeds without the trailer.
