My Modified megane... half way there.....

Postby Renault_dan » Wed Jun 02, 2010 5:05 pm

Hello all, i have had my megane for about 7months now, and untill a month ago i refused to spend any money on modifications as my last 4 cars have stolen my money...... but that all changed :)

So i brought a bog standard 1.6 Megane

Then the **MUST** mod to all cars.... lowered it :)

Then painted the calipers red :)

Then tinted the windows and number plate :)

And here's a sneak peak of the wheels......

But before the wheels go on, they need a good refurb and spraying white...

so first, the state of the wheels
Image
Image

then came the filler
Image
had to put alot on due to the state the wheels were in
Image

Then the first sanding down
Image
Image

then the first coat of primer

As they stand now...... not finished.

And more to come........

Nice!

I've never changed a thing on mine, so do you mind if I ask a few dumb questions?

1. What prep is required before you paint the callipers?
2. What paint(s) did you use on them?

Oh, and now I can contact my 'friend' who will steal a black 1.6VVT to order and fit your plates to it. Tip: hide your plate details on any images - it's for a good reason.

Looking good! If I were to do anything to mine, it would be modest lowering and the callipers - both seem to improve the image of the car. Got me thinking now....

you decided on a colour for the wheels then? anthracite or a dark colour would look well.

Are you painting them or are you getting them done else where?

Looking good though man.

Thanks for the comments

just clean the calipers before painting and i used High engine temp paint..... cheap and long lasting....

On the wheels im really undecided.... i might go either white or gun metal grey...... really cant decide... i do everything myself. its easy if you have paicents and time.

The wheels in all cost me £40 the repair done by myself cost me £40 in tools, and i got new tyres for £100 so £180 for a brand new set of wheels and tyres :)

Dan,

Cheers for the advice. Bang on high temperature paint with brush and wait till dry? No need to wire brush them down to clean metal then?

If so, I'm doing it tomorrow.

You did very well on those rims lad. Like new.

My only concern would be after such damage are they structurally sound. Ie no micro cracks that may expand.

Regards.

You can wire brush them, but i never..... i just wiped down and painted with a brush... left it 10min, put another coat on and then put the wheel on and left it to dry...... the paint sticks on anything and everything so be carefull...

I checked the wheels before hand, there only surface damage, so no cracks or mayjor damage.... ive still got to sand again and spray to colour, still undecided :?

Just ordered my wind deflectors and 225 front grills and areo blades :D

Then after that i've done! i'm definatly one for less is more, no kits just slammed wheels and subtle mods

Your car looks mean as, you've done a fab job on the wheels! I to have just painted my calipers, I spent ages looking for purple high temp paint to no avail. In the end I mixed red and blue hammerite together and it worked a treat! Only trouble is I have standard wheels (16 inch Nervastella's) and as its not a bright colour you can't really see the purple, think I need some new wheels...... :-) I to never planned to do any mods to this car but spending time on here and seeing some cracking cars has got me thinking I should.

Hey Dan,

What did you use to tint the rear windows? Tinting film or is it some sort of spray? I just ask because I used a tinting film kit on my last car (2003 Punto) and had nasty lines all over the rear windscreen. Is there a clever technique to getting rid of them because it put me off ever using tint film again. That and the fact when I took the film out the adhesive would not come off the inside of the window. I used warm water and soap, sticky stuff remover, nothing worked. I ended up having to use wire wool to get it off, luckily it didn't scratch the window. Anyway, I digress.

Cheers

If film is put on the rear window the heating elements shouldn't be used for at least a week, or as you have seen, it results in a bubbled mess.

I have tinted my rear window in film and after allowing it to try for a week have no imperfections to be seen a year later.

Did you have to cut it into strips? I never got the joins right on mine so I had 4 vertical lines running all the way down the window, looked turd that's why I eventually took it out and then had all the problems with the adhesive. :banghead
