More power from a DCi 80

Postby zoe-222 » Sat May 29, 2010 6:33 pm

Hi everyone,

We are going to sound so old but pardon me for being so ha ha

We have a Scenic DCi 80 on an '05' plate and currently have a caravan that is quite light which the car pulled ok but didnt really like it much on the motorway at certain points when going up hill. Now i spoke to renault and they said that the cars engine has the exact same block as the DCi 100 just with different mapping.

Now without going down the route of remapping is there any way that you can "wind up the boost" ever so slightly? All i need is a small increase in boost to give it that extra bit of oomph on the hills.

Can anyone help??

Thanks

James

i had a plugin tuning chip, a 'drake box 2' can be found on their site (just type in google)

this made the car boost early and made the boost last longer, think it'll do the trick, im selling mine on ebay atm, wanting £65 for it, its good unit, i saw increse in mpg and you can honestly feel the increse in bhp you should deffo check their site out! id reccomend it, from me or from the main site!

hope this is of some use :-)

My conclusion after a long trip with caravan and 1.9 is to avoid 'improvements' such as an ECU fooler. If the engine can be mapped to give the same performance as the 100bhp model, then get a professional re-mapping place to do it. £225 should suffice - Angel Tuning and a large number of other companies will come out to you and do the necessaries. Upping the boost randomly is asking for trouble such as compressor stalls, oil leaks and having the stop light illuminate on the motorway when there is no hard shoulder.

With a light caravan you should be able to maintain the legal maximum of 60 on all but the steepest gradients - and most motorways don't have steep hills. In my case, a steady 70 can be maintained (under test conditions ) with a moderate 'van under any conditions provided the correct gear is chosen.

Red 03 plate 5dr 1.9 Dynamique dci120

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!
