is it worth it ?

Hi

can anyone tell me if it's worth the effort of fitting a k and n induction kit to my 1.6 vvt mk2 Megane.

From what I have read it just seems to make a nicer noise and may even be detrimental to the car in terms of performance.

Im not clued up in the modification game but i always thought that if you put on a performance air filter on thats its best to get a performance exhaust too to maximize on the bhp ganes?

More air in more air out ;)

If you are going to put one on, an enclosed one with cold air feed would be best but you may lose some of the sound you want.

Sucking in hot air will not give any gains. As said above, doing breather mods you really need to do the exhaust for the best gains but it is not neccesary if you are only after the sound.

hi,

thanks for the quick reply, I'm not sure now that the mod will be worth it as I think it's going to be difficult to get the cold air feed even after the air box has been removed, I am however intrigued to see how momo1000's conversion goes, as he has fitted a k and n filter utilising the existing air pipe attached to the throttle body, I may just sell the one I have and go for a panel filter instead, my priorities at the minute are to lower the car and fit bigger wheels, I hadn't planned on the exhaust just yet but I take on board what you mean, will have to save some pennies up for that.

a guy on meg sport tested the bhp with and with out an induction kit with a closed cold induction feed, and they found that the standard airbox gave more bhp, and that a performance pannel filter gave the best bhp improvements, so it depends on wether your bothered about the noise or the bhp gains

to be honest I'm not that bothered about the noise, it sounds like a result may be the panel filter, anyone want to buy a k and n 57i induction kit ??

Ive got a kn panel filter on mine :D it has made a difference to mine in that you can hear the turbo much more than before. I cant really tell and difference in performance though, if its there its very minor. I only got it because although its more expensive to buy than a standard one, its washable so over the time i have the car it will work out cheaper aswel.

Open cone filters are crap. Sucking in very hot engine bay air can only hurt performance.
