Hi all, this is my first post on this site since coming across from the 306 Gti - 6 club. There is certainly a much more mature "feel" to this one.
Ok, the question I am asking is will there be a problem with fitting 19" wheels aswell as lowering the car 45mm? I know the two mods are no problem individually, but will they work together or is it wise to just lower by 35mm? The other option is to lower 45mm and use 18" wheels.I hope someone has some experience of this as I have not found anything on the search and I don't want to totally destroy the handling.
Regardless of the replies, a big hello to everyone, I hope you make newbies feel welcome.

Re: Will 19"s rub?
i agree with the mature feel of this forum to the GTI6 forum, ive been on there for over 4 year and have over 4000 posts. sick of that place now, full of tossers. i think your asking to kill the handling of your megane if your going to fit 19" wheels
Megane II dynamique 1.9 DCI 120bhp, 5 door, 52 plate.
Re: Will 19"s rub?
i have 18's with a 45mm drop and think it could deffos handle more of a drop or bigger wheels. as said the finn has 19s and coilovers, not sure how much hes dropped it.

Hey Anth, yeah I remember you now, you haven't been on for a while though, just checked your last post was back in April. Small world. I got ripped when I said I bought a Megane but they are all car "experts" and obviously know better. Like you said, too many tossers on there now. Shame. Anyway nice to hear from you.

To be honest, I'm not bothered too much by the handling as I dont drive fast or anything, as long as it's safe and doesn't fly off the road. I guess in theory it should be ok to drop by 45mm as opposed to 35mm as the 19" wheel has a lower profile tyre? I think I'll just go for it anyway, see what happens.
Nice car in the photo, nice girl at the back of it too.

Re: Will 19"s rub?
I think the only thing that will rub will be the hands of the dealer selling 19" wheels.

Re: Will 19"s rub?
Hi Ian and welcome on my part, too!
I'm the guy who was referred to as having 19s and coilovers:

You definitely CAN pull off both the 19s and lowering without rubbing (other than what Wanda quite cleverly pointed out).
Mine's dropped ~55mm and the tyres are 225/35R19. The alloys are 8.5" wide and the offsets in that picture are 35mm on the front axle and 25mm on the rear axle.
But a 35mm offset should work perfectly for both front and rear. And any offset between 35...45 should be absolutely safe concerning rubbing (or rather lack of it).
(EDIT: Unless you have a 225/F1/R26 of course, which means the absolutely smallest offset that fits is 45mm, in fact something like 50...55mm would be ideal for a 225. That's because the thicker Brembo discs on those "push" the wheels further out than in ordinary Meganes.)

Re: Will 19"s rub?
Thanks for the reassurance there. I have been meaning to message you about the drop on your car as I have read your posts and couldn't figure out how low you went. I think 45mm will be low enough for me as I don't want to change the shocks just yet. I have to wait regardless as i'm after a very specific wheel which isn't made anymore, so it's a case of waiting for ebay. Nice looking car there btw.
