Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Just booked the remap with Wake up your car; well a subsidiary of them.
They say its more than capable of 160bhp, without a decat or new back box; just make sure you have a performance filter in place.
If i'd had the exhaust bits done, it will go well over 170bhp, if they could rely on the clutch it would reach 180bhp.
However, as i dont want a smelly clutch, we agreed it would be best around 160bhp. I could always do the exhaust at a later date and get the extra power.
He's coming next thursday (Payday) to my house and it will cost me £250 all in; including the customisation of the map.
Will let you know how i get on.
In the mean time, i'm selling my tuning box. 1.9dci fitting obviously; for £50. Done about 6000 miles with it and its in perfect condition. Have never had problems with it and has caused no issues with my car, as you can see above. Will post in forsale/wanted later on.

Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Does it only fit the 1.9 mate just out of interest mate? Because that could be the problem with mine, that its set for a 1.9 and not for a 1.5...

Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Dont think it will fit. If it did, the settings would be out, so you wouldn't get the full power.
I'd suggest you try and get your money back. Or test it on a few differnt cars.
At the end of the day, you've been sold a product that doesnt work for what you bought it for. Whether its false advertising or its faulty, you are entitled to your money.

The bloke is now claiming he has written proof it worked on his megane before he sent it to me and i must have damaged it somehow. It arrived at 9.06am, i tried to fit it at 9.07am (keen bean) and then rang him literally 10mins later. But apparently i fried the chip... which is bollocks, but paypal dont sound to hopeful... his word against mine kind of thing....

Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Oooo! Just had the remap done. Definitely feel the power! I think i've gained another 15-20bhp!
He said he expected it to be running at 158bhp, and i dont think he's far wrong. They played around with it and its running nice and smooth, caught me out as i got the wheels spinning in second gear coming out of a corner!
Not had a good thrash in it yet, only around town and only got into third!
So will take her for a spin when its quiet tonight. So far... Excellent!!

Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Word of warning mate and by no means do you have to listen lol but give it a 100-200miles before you thrash it, let it get settled. Ive had two cars remapped by two different places and both advised taking it easy for a while before thrashing it.
At the same time.... fckin right, 160bhp is outstanding.... presume there was no dyno?

Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Sadly no dyno, but he has done a few meganes with dyno's and they came out with about 160. So i believe him lol.
Yeah i've done about 20 miles driving through slow traffic so its not been thrashed yet. I'll take it easy today and tomorrow then, going to nottingham on saturday, so on the way back i'll open her up. I'll take your advice
.
Next month is going to be decat i think, even if it does get too much power for the clutch to take, the bloke said he can down tune it a few bhp's and nm's to be within its limits. The decat will make it more free revving and better a the low revs.
So far, well happy!

Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Hi was it the 'italian box' that you put on? I was thinking of putting one on my GT It has 150bhp now and they reckon its a 35% uplift that you can get which I suppose takes it up to 200 ish. I had a 225 before and found it a bit skittish in the wet - good fun though. As the GTs a diesel if its throwing 200 bhp out it should pull like a train
How easy was it to change the settings from full blast?

Re: Tuning Box - Fitting, Power & Reliability
Just a quick update.....
I have had my chip fitted for about 3 weeks now and the gains are instant. Firstly the car now just want to drive and there is no lag, it has been wheel spinning in third which I didn't predict. The acceleration has been improved dramatically and you can really feel the pull on hard acceleration. It is also alot more torquey and will keeping revving with no limit (could be a bad thing). The mpg has gone up from 53mpg to 65mpg but i know this isn't an acurate reading because of what the chip does.
However, I am now considering taking the chip off and running it standard for a while as I have experienced a few glitches
. Firstly the mpg seems to be worse than before (even though the ecu states its better). I normally fill up £20pw to get to work and back but its not now stretching.
Secondly, from time to time the ecu seems to get confused and after a period of full throttle the car will then forget to open up the injectors and just plod along for a moment.
Lastly the turbo seems to stay fired up during gear change (as if your still pressing the throttle). This does help the acceleration but in turn the turbo is working harder so may shorten its life.
All in all I am very impressed with my chip as it only cost me £90 BUT I wouldn't want to use it for everyday driving, day in day out. I would be more inclined to taking it off for this and only using for long motorway journeys where it seems to turn the car into a demon with great acceleration and virtually zero fuel usage.
I just feel long term it is harming the engine. I would consider a professional remap next time over a chip as they seem to be kinder on the engine are tried and tested my other megane owners.
I hope you find this useful when deciding.

Yep, its the one pictured above, sold now. It was really easy to change the setting, i just had to turn it down until it stopped giving the error. I then turned it down a little more to make sure i wasn't pushing it too much.
Morley... Have you turned the box down a little? It might be running a little too high and over fueling slightly. I didnt have any problems with mine, however i can definitley recommend a remap, the driveability isn't completely different, however the power seems to pull very well throughout the revs, even up to 4300 if your feeling brave. It does black smoke a little when you really give itsome, but itsall good. If you can afford a remap then do it, if not, i still recommend a tuning box as i had no issues.
