What do I need to do to graft VVT engine into my 2000 magane sport.
Car was bought with wrecked head from timing belt failure and VVT full engine obtained from salvage yard.

Re: Engine Transplant
i would imagine wiring loom, ecu, gearbox and driveshafts like most engine conversions, and a good mechanic who knows what to do aswell as someone who knows how to play with the ever so reliable renault electronics.
Re: Engine Transplant
That sounds like the sort of job that would be astronomically complex on a modern car. I might have had a go in a Maxi or an old camper van, but..... good luck!

??
Eddie
Yes just a bit, having built hundreds of old school carb compitition (blue printed) engines from 1498cc mini crossflow to 4.6 rover v8 with lost of lotus twin cam in between.
What I needed to know and have now found is the amount of electronics/wiring to make a VVT engine work in an old Megane.
Thanks for your interest.

Thanks

Been there done that, Rover V8 into a transit van extended to carry my racing car, Granada V6 into a MKii Cortina, Izusu 2.8 into a Disco etc etc.
Thanks
Mike
PS this is my first Renault and by the sound of things it will be the last.
Re: Engine Transplant
I would find out from someone with some real technical knowledge if the engine codes will cause a problem as you might get it all in etc and it might just not start, im no mechanic or anything so someone else from renault or on here might be of more use.
I would imagine your going to have to splice the two looms from the car as it is and from the new engine, either that or totally redo your can with a new loom, either way not a very easy job, unless you know exactly what your doing.

Eddie-- wrote:meganes engines bit more harder due to the electrics as most people will say there a pain in any reno engine i think
mate dropped old reno 19 engine into a metro just the electrics is pissing him off but i'd say the megane will be a fair bit harder due to what it consits of
if you've the background into it best thing i can say is get a few pdf files on wiring digrams and you know the engine side of it shouldnt be that hard for yourself then lol keep up posted
Ha you'll have fun tryig to wire a car from PDF diagrams if you don't have a background in electronics, they don't show you a picture of the dash and the loom with numbers teling you what goes to what. A wiring diagram shows you the components in the circuit and it's up to you to work out what's what and where it goes.
Good luck on the engine swap though buddy, from experience new engines are a hell of a lot harder to work with due to the enclosed nature of everything on them, but at least your not trying to put an F7R or something in a Megane 2 that'd be a whole different ball game.
