Tuning box fitting and test

Postby jim1.9dci » Fri Mar 13, 2009 9:43 am

ordered a tuning box for my 1.9dci 120 yesterday afternoon from colin at tdtuning for the discount price of £120 and it arrived 8am this morning  so here is a few pics of where to plug it in and where i mounted it (probably not the best place but its pretty secure) , im off to try it out now and see what its like..

How did it go?
I've got some money set aside which i'm thinking of spending on one of these.

If its not perfect i might just sace a few more pennies and get a full remap with a performance exhaust.

done about 150 miles with it now and its good, does a few more miles per gallon definately, and overtaking is easier you can feel the extra torque , not as big a gain as expected but still worth it, no downsides at all , no smoke or juddering or any warning lights all good so far :-) would like to get dyno to see the real gain

from what I've heard, ECU remaps alter turbo boost pressures as well as other parameters (hence bigger power/torque hikes), where as tuning boxes just alter the amount of fuel going in to combustion.

well I have done 20,000 mile with a remap and a further 2000 with a box fitted turned up higher than we recommend and I have not blew my turbo. The box works as follows
The power comes from the fuel. If you increase the rail pressure the car will inject the fuel with higher pressure. Every engine can have more power than the manufacturer activates. The electronic unit activates it . When the fuel is pushed in at a higher pressure the ECU gets new sensor readings and alters boost etc accordingly.
Jim thanks for the Pics they look great do you mind if I steal them or use them even. Would love to find out the results if you do get it rolliing roaded as well.

How comes you only paid £120.00 when their website quotes £299.99

Renault Megane 1.9 dCi (88 kW / 120 PS) 11.02 -
Standard 88 (120)
Optimised 105 (143)

Would love one but aint getting one for £300 !! Can get a remap for that !!

the main reason why the turbos blow in the 1.9 dci is because when they get serviced who ever does the service doesnt change the filter for the turbo, which clogs up and then no oil gets to the turbo causing it to blow, most diesel turbos can handle pressures up to 20psi when i had my megane i had a boost gauge fitted to it and had cranked the boost up to 22psi, stuck it well never had a problem with it.

Hi sorry not been on the site for a while, the £299 Box is an aluminium cased box exactly the same function just in a better housing.... the £150 unit (now £179.00) does exactly the same but obvisouly in just a platic housing, we are now offering multi-channel boxes as well however these are alot more expensive at around £389.00 they plug into not just the rail sensor but rail and boost, and there are a few more boxes which of 3, 4 or 5 channel applications for certain vehicles. The plastic 1 channel boxes are still available at a discount price now £130 but i will give you free delivery as well.

I can offer discounts on the aluminium boxes as well if your after any other type of box.

Where is the filter for the turbo? Do you mean the engine oil filter??

Mathematics are as follows: more power=more heat. The cooling system on your car is optimized for the power you get as standard. Any increase in power means much higher increase in heat (ICE is a heat engine), and there is no way for the heat to escape from the system. Valves, pumps, turbine are the parts that suffer the most.
