Remap a petrol version
Hi, I was wondering if anyone on here has re-mapped their petrol Megane? This is purely out of interest to see if it can be done and what improvements it gives. I've seen a few threads referring to the diesel version and they seem to have some very impressive results. I did look on that Superchips website and they said they could achieve an extra....6bhp

Re: Remap a petrol version
Naturally aspirated petrols will see a tiny gain, turbo diesels are always the engines to get the biggest results.
I am sure I've seen someone on here who's remapped a 1.6 though. If he See's the thread I'm sure he'll comment.
Your better off with induction kits, exhausts, and less with the electrical side of things on the petrol, Or get a diesel ad have some torque :P

Hi, all you will get from a remap on the 1.6 is 7 bhp, just livens the engine up and makes it more responsive, and very slightly better on fuel..

Your garage could also change your software.
Mine did it and with upgrade / free/ I got some more horses under the bonnet.
Pity, but I cannot recal the code of the upgrade.

I think you will have to say what car you have in order for people to make suggestions. I have a petrol version and judging by what I have read, there is no point in tuning it at all. Diesels seem to get a good power enhancement through re-mapping. Personally I think the best tip is to start saving and get a 225.
If you're just after cosmetic mod's then I expect people will just say lower it 45mm, replace bumpers, put 18" wheels on it and colour code everything.
This could all be pointless because I don't know what model you have. It would be nice to see someone with an R26 who wants to make it seriously powerful but one can only hope.
p.s Use the search option or just look through the old threads to see if anything interests you.
Re: Remap a petrol version
thanks for your concern
i've a 1.6 petrol engine in my Megane2
and I'm after performance enhancements only
and No i can never buy the 225 here ( i live in Egypt ) Customs make it impossible for me ( over 90,000U$ )
any suggestions?

Re: Remap a petrol version
my friend had a polo g40 that he supercharged i asked him about it and he said u could probably supercharge it with low boost run about extra 30 bhp and keep standard parts ie cams and so on you would be the first to do it tho i thought about it but nothing in planning until i get another car for run around
Re: Remap a petrol version
Found no experience here to do the supercharger kit, as well as it may cost alot
i did few upgrades though
Sports air filter ( Simota ).. works fine on acceleration and high end speed
exhaust .. just cleaned what's inside the catalyzer box ( it seems european cars are strict about it more than others)
triple spark plugs from NGK
.. better performance .. sorry i cant measure it
However, any body can help with the necessary tools to remap the car? ( to do it myself )

Re: Remap a petrol version
Like the guys have said, re-mapping the ECU is likely to net you at best +10% on a non-turbo petrol engine. You can't do it yourself - you need specialist computer equipment and software and a map that has been developed by a company with access to a dyno and who have invested a lot of time and effort into research and design.
My advice would be to explore all other methods of tuning first as others have said. Then, if you are still not satisfied, trade it for a diesel and have it professionally re-mapped - you should get 150bhp from a 120bhp standard 1.9dci + more torque.
What's the deal with supercharging it!? Fine if you are an advanced mechanic with a degree in thermodynamics. Doesn't seem very realistic to me!
