Modifying a 1.6 16v ????

Postby griffo17 » Mon May 11, 2009 5:01 pm

Hi does anybody know if there are cams that can be put in a 1.6 16v meggy 2... either from a company or if you maybe you could put the cams out of a 2.0 non turbo and they will act as a modified cam to give more power???

Also if you guys know anyways to increase the power of a 1.6 16v without spending major amounts of money... also buying a sport is not an option as im only 18 and insurance will be to high on one of them...

thanks in advance
dan

Get yourself a DeCat Manifold, straight through exhaust and an Induction kit,

can't really do much more, cheaply.

Hi Im Irvin,
I Am also looking to speed up my 1.6, will a straight through manifold system make my car sound loud???
and does that increase the acceleration?
Cheers Irvin,

it will make it sound very very loud, puting on a decat manifold nd straight through exhaust, ud be looking at possible gains of 30bhp, get an induction kit then remap and youll be flying.

Lol Ok Thanks, See I Dont Want My Car To Sound All That Loud,
Would A Silencer On The End Make Any Difference To Sound Or Bhp Gain?
A Remap In My Opinion Is Not Worth The Money!!!
Induction Kit Is A Must, Wich Ones Do you Reccomend?

if you go for a decat mainfold without the straight through exhaust, you get a louder noise but it would be liveable, also K'n'N Panel Filter would be the better option than an induction kit, 33-2849 that part number will get you the panel filter for your engine.

a remap alone on a non-turbo'd engine isn't a great option, but installing a decat manifold and panel filter will throw of your ecu 'slightly' and you won't get the best performance from those parts

e.g. the k'n'n would allow for more air to get into the cycilinders but the ecu wont really compencate for the extra air so, yes you will get extra performance without a remap, but a remap will alow all the extra parts to work better

I.E.
A remap alone would get you maby 7bhp extra
Decat manifold and panel filter you'd possibly get 20-25bhp
decat mainfold, panel filter and remap your getting the better part of 30bhp

so a 1.6 standard is what 100bhp? get all those parts and really push the remap you could be sitting over 135bhp
but don't take my word for it, ask a specialist.

i think thats being very optimistic. you might get 10bhp max from an exhaust, IK and map. Your better off taking stuff out to reduce the weight. Sound deadening, get lightweight seats, take the rears out maybes. Only way your going to see 130bhp is a set of aftermarket cams, i think youll be lucky to find a set, ive just checked and cat cams, piper, and kent dont do a set for the 1.6.

you ever put a decat manifold on? they add 15bhp alone, then ur exhaust 10bhp 1.6's are 100 stanard right?
so decat manifold and exhaust = about 25bhp, remap you add about 5 = 130

i know what im talking about.

ok I haven't done it to a 1.6 megane but I did do of to it 306gti6. it was rolling rolled with cat and standard exhaust and decat and cat back, I got 169 and then 170. on the same rolling road. I can't see he megane being much difference. it felt like the 6 reved up much quicker but at the top end where max power is measured it didnt make any difference. a manifold, decat, and cat back will give u more power over the whole rev range. it don't expect ur max power to be much higher. I also know what I'm talking about. to get that tho it WILL be louder. imo it's not worth it. leave the engine as is and save for a faster car

You would be lucky if you saw 5bhp from an exhaust to be honest.

i have done something similar, not on a 16 megane either but on a corsa 1.2 standard was 79 after decat manifold alone power was boosted up to 98, K'n'N and straight through exhaust, the car was sittin over 105, it did also sound like a really really really big wasp
