HID's & Canbus

Postby denty225 » Thu Nov 27, 2008 4:24 am

I was looking at hid kits and was wondering if they need to be canbus compatible for the megane? I know the canbus has been a nightmare for people with the cabasse stereo so I expect Renault have applied the same consideration to other electrical items  .

Can somebody please confirm that I need a canbus hid kit or not?

Thanks, Paul.

Not at least if yours is a Phase 1.

Does that mean the phase 2's are canbus linked then?

No not necessarily... The Finn means he has got a Phase1 and has previously had an aftermarket HID kit fitted which didn't involve the canbus.
The kits use only the existing wiring. The original connector on the standard bulb plugs into a new loom supplied in the kit. This looms then goes to a ballast. From the ballast there is another lead that connects to the new xenon bulb mounted in the headlamp.

Yes, I meant I had personal experience only from a Phase 1 and can't say anything sure about the Phase 2.

But having just browsed through some French Megane CC forum members' cars, many of the owners seem to have fitted HID kits to their Phase 2s and no-one mentions anything about problems with CAN. So, my strong bet is you won't need any adapter for the Phase 2 neither.
