MEGANE TINTED WINDOWS......

Postby alexjb » Mon Sep 22, 2008 1:38 pm

Anyone tinted their windows ?

Seen a few with dark rear windows and they looked very nice.

Wouldn't mind doing the same.

Any ideas how/from where/how much ??

Cheers. ;-)

Haven't had mine done yet but got a quote of £280 for front and back. (80% back 30% front)

i think its illegal to have any in the front isnt it now? but gonna take the risk anyway!

this is probly the higher end of tinting as they use proper quality materials and give you a lifetime guarantee against any kind of problem(bubbling, corner peeling etc.) i saw a friends car who highly recommended them and it looked quality.

i think it'll look sweet.

very dear quotes IMO

Eddie, you do this part time do you? At twenty quid a window? I would be very interested in having my back three done if possible? Does this include materials?

Thanks

if not i can pass you on some numbers of people doing it in portadown an lisburn areas. same money 120 the full set 60 for the back three

Well im in no hurry, In the sport saloon they come tinted all round to a certain extent, and then there is built in sun blinds on all rear three, just think having it in black a bit darker would be nice... If u cant do any numbers would be handy if there work is good. Next ill be on to you about painting my bumpers... but its mighty hard to find the paint... The metailc black with the gold flakes...

cheapest ive found was 90quid but he did them on your drive which meant could be a little dust behind the film if windy and not guaranteed against shrinkage or ote and he wanted 100 for the back 3 think they are bit more pricey over here tbh if your eer in england and fancy tinting my windows in the midlands let me know lol

You starting to make me feel paranoid about these pre cut ones now, are there any problems with them? or is it just that its cheaper to cut them my self?

I did mine myself, had to have 2 attempts that failed before I am happy now with the third. I used cheap foil from a halfords-like store here in germany and each roll was about 7 quid, so no real damage. I absolutely wanted to keep the rear window foil in one peace, which was why I needed 3 attempts.

Went about it like so:
- cut foil roughly to measure
- wet the outside of the window
- put foil on the wet window with glue side facing you, do NOT remove glue cover sheet.
- cut foil to exact size
- use hot air gun for at least an hour to bend the foil according to the window. I found that a hairdryer is not hot enough so I used the hot air gun.
- wet inside of the window
- lift foil off outside and remove glue cover sheet, best use a second pair of hands.
- put foil onto inside, align it
- use hot air gun again and again and again....until you have all bubbles and crinkles removed, might tale another hour.

ready. easy.... ;-)

And I am very satisfied with the result, see for yourself:

Image

It is not perfect, a few tiny bubbles have still survived, but they are hardly visible . Bearing in mind that I would have had to pay 200 quid somewhere else and now only invested 21 quid I can live with that. Still thinking of tinting the rear door windows but I am not sure if I can mannage them because of those big black rubber window borders...time will tell.
