1.9 DCI 120 Engine Remap - any long term effects?

Postby Delboymel » Sat May 18, 2013 7:41 am

Hi there

I have a 1.9 DCI Megane II coupe convertible and am considering an engine remap. Hubby has some niggling little doubts, that I'm hoping some of you could dispel for me, so i can persuade him this will be ok! (Isn't it normally the other way round?!?)

Main thing, i have found a reputable and local company to do the remap for me but want to understand by taking my 120 up to 170 bhp, will this cause any long term issues on the brakes, clutch etc?

My car is due a service in June so will ensure any issues are sorted before any potential remap, but if anyone has any feedback on any long term pros and cons, that would be great!

Thanks in advance :-)

I have had my 1.9dci CC remapped twice , one was a power remap which gave me no problems and the second time as an economy remap when I had the dpf removed , my mpg now around town is about 50 and on a run high 50's , make sure its a reputable company that does it and they keep a copy of your ecu reading so if any problems they can return it to standard

how are you with exhaust emissions on MOT with dpf removed ?

and does you economy map also raise the power, or ?
As my thinking, any optimization of engine will give better fuel economy when delivering same power as before, (I know you have to burn more fuel to get more power output)

i had the remap and dpf removed before my last mot in October and no problems with emissions, the dpf is not part of the mot, power wise there is not much difference between the Eco and power remap in my case and the removal of the dpf also helps with a slight power increase

Thanks, sorry for asking, but I always prefer first hands on experience.

also, how much power is considered "safe" ? as the 170 mentioned in first post seems a bit far stretched

that is for you to decide with the people who are doing the remap , i used a company called louth racing vw specialists who use quantum tuning, as they come highly recommended and i also had my motorhome remapped by them about 4 years ago, if you go to far there are the worries about the clutch not being strong enough

quantum tuning also do a 30 day money back guarantee https://www.quantumtuning.co.uk/

Thanks a lot. I found a dealer for them in Slovenia that is relatively near, approx 100 mile, and this is also on my to do list. Together with dpf removal.

Thanks again. You have been very helpful
