16cm speakers in MegII doors
Hello,
From saturday the 31st of may I will be the proud owner of a '04 GT 2.016v Privilege Luxe. It came very nice and I love it.
But, I know I am going to be unhappy with the OEM Ice, so the headunit goes away for a Kenwood XXV-01D with a addition for the steeringwheel remote control and display output.
Speakers however....I read that they are 13cm in the doors, and I am not happy with that. I had a very nice 16cm Hertz compo in my Meg I coupe, and I am going to fit them in the Meg II.
Anybody done this before? if yes, got any tips and tricks?
Would appreciate help and suggestions. It can save me a heck lot of time...
Thanks in advance.
Erik

Welcome to the forum (and groeten uit Holland )
There'se no room for fitting other speaker sizes than 13 cm in the front doors, without cutting away the plastic trim above the speakers as far as I know. Cutting that away will potentially cause water problems, so I wouldn't advice it. In addition to the limitation of the speaker diameter, the depth is also a problem, not all 13 cm speakers will fit.
There's a solution to fit 16 cm speakers, a German company sells custom made door parts for installing 16 cm speakers in the front doors. Looks great but expensive solution. Unfortunately, I cannot find it on the web anymore as I do not know the name. But I'me sure I've seen it on this forum as well.
I've got Pioneer TS-Q131C in the front and TS-E1396 in the back, sounds great and a perfect fit

Re: 16cm speakers in MegII doors
haha thanks,
Well, I am not scared of cutting into the plastic or steel of the door. It is a lot of work, but if done properly, the internal structure will be not changed. And it is quite easy to make it waterproof once again.
The magnets on my speakers are altough a little larger, so I guess I need to check depth of speakers and the space between the doorpanel and side-window.
So, listening to your words, I guess it is not a easy fix, but it sounds not that bad either. Nice project upcoming

good luck in your project - but big warning which will be repeated by lots of others on here - if you cut the standard waterproofing it seems to muck about with the standard electronics thru water ingress but ultimately your decision - have tried dynamat waterproof and few others but ended up selling the car and getting another megane as mucked up all the door electrics etc

That might be enough for me not to modify...However, I dealt with more of this, so I am going to give it a look anyway.
Thanks though!

Re: 16cm speakers in MegII doors
Oh, late
I forgot one important thing - this (almost) 55mm you can count only when you cut a "rain-stop", the top half of speaker holder.
(on picture is show above screwdriver):
Otherwise you will be very limited in choice of speakers due to very small place for speaker magnet.

DSK130 will not fit without cutting "rain-stop" shield._ivo_ wrote:I'm inserting Hertz DSK130. I think they are 52mm
Without mods, you can place only few types of speakers (and most of them have reverse-mounted drive - in front of membrane). Like Pioneer TS-Q131C:

Re: 16cm speakers in MegII doors
Yes. But water you often have anyway, no matter if there is "rain-stop" shield or not (i had water leakage on driver-side door and it had "rain-stop" shield)._ivo_ wrote:but didn't you have water then later in doors ?
You must did something else to avoid water leakage.
P.S.: I have still "rain-stop" shields uncutted. But I speculate for another speakers and any other need mod inside the doors.
