Installing 6x9s and replacing front door speakers

Postby VaVaVoom » Wed Mar 05, 2008 4:27 pm

Hi, I'm new to this forum and want to upgrade the sound of my current system. So far I've only got a new Sony bluetooth head unit and though the sound quality of the stock speakers is impressive; I don't like the way they handle low frequency bass and the way in which they become distorted. First of all, I want to install some 6x9s on the rear parcel shelf; I know how this may not be the best quality but I am looking for a quick fix solution and don't need masses of power. I have a pair of excellent Sony 6x9s i bought some time ago for nearly £100 and used to have them installed in my old Corsa. Where do I access the wires for the rear speakers? Are they in the rubber sealed piping that appear when one opens the door? I know I can get this install done professionally, but I like doing things myself now and again!

Lastly, any decent recommendations for direct front door speaker replacements? And do this fit into the existing two screws left by the old speakers? Sorry if my questions are stupid!

hello and welcome

firstly i must say that 6x9 are crap...regarding sq. but if that what you want to do that completly fine.

however if you are goign to put them on the rear shelf, remember that with the extra weight, the shelf MIGHT sag.

i take it you ahve a 5 door?

the speaker wire will be in that tubing, however i wouldn't advise to cut it open, or dicver it from there. try chasing the spker wires back to the loom in the floor floor of the car and then inline splice or divert all power to your 6x9's

standard replacement are some pioneer ones....apparently they sound very good, there are loads of formum in the ICE section that can give you the model number
