Tuner List To Update List?
Hi Guys
Might sound like a silly question to those of you who are in the know, but does anyone know if I can do a straight swap from my tuner list radio/cd to an update list unit?
I think I will be inheriting the unit from my black meg, which now belongs to my daughter. She wants to put something in there with a bit more go!
Regards
Rob

Nope, not possible. The Tunerlist uses an analogue interface for display and steeringwheel control, where the Updatelist uses a digital (Canbus) interface.
The yellow mini iso plug will fit the Updatelist radio, but the signal is not compatible.

Yes, unfortunately Renault decided to change the interface in 2006...
I changed my Tunerlist to an older unit from the Laguna. With 3X40 watt it has a better sound than the standard Megane Tunerlist which only has 4X15 watt and I can still use the display and steering wheel controls

Yes it will work with the Laguna Tunerlist, as it worked with your original Megane Tunerlist.
It uses a blue 8 pin mini iso connector for the changer on both radio's, interface is the same.
If your upgrading to the Laguna Tunerlist unit, you will need a frame to fill up the small gap around the radio front as the Laguna front is slightly smaller than the Megane radio front.
In fact, the Laguna front has a standard DIN size, so any radio frame for a standard DIN sized radio will work. I bought my frame (you can also see it on the picture) for a couple of pounds on eBay.
For example:

I strongly advise to invest in some proper speakers when you want to get the best out of any radio in your Megane. This has a dramatic effect on the sound quality.
The standard factory speakers are worthless, made out of paper. I've changed both the front and rears with Pioneers (as have a lot of other forum users ).
My speakers:
Front: Pioneer TS-Q131C (plug and play with special Renault connectors)
Back: Pioneer TS-E1396 (but another option is the TS-E1376 which are slightly cheaper)

Thanks again renier
I will be having a look on ebay soon. I agree about the standard speakers, they are a bit crap! Will be changing them too eventually.
BTW - Ray is correct with the 2005 change because my black meg is a July 2005 build and mine was the first update list I had seen.
Thanks for all your help.

Re: Tuner List To Update List?
Hi all
i am new to this site
i have recently purchased a grand scenic reg mid 2005 which had a aftermarket stereo fitted?
i want to change it back to the original spec as i was lead to believe that i required a update expert list not the tuner list?
i have tried to fit the expert list and can not see the display or use the remote control
have i got the wrong stereo or could there be another problem
all the fittings were correct is one analouge and one digital?
thanks in advance
Darren

Re: Tuner List To Update List?
If you have the phase 2 model (with the LED rear lights) you should have the Updatelist,
with the Phase 1 model you should have the Tunerlist, it's as simple as that

Re: Tuner List To Update List?
that clears that up then!
my rear lights are standard bulbs not the led so therefore mine is a phase one and should have a tuner list stereo which is the reason i can not see the display or work the remote stalk with the update expert list
thanks for the quick response
anyone need a boxed unused update list stereo let me know
thanks again

Re: Tuner List To Update List?
OK have to admit I'm confused
used to have 2005 1.5 dci dynamique, changed to a 2008 1.5 dci dynamique this week
stereo's look identical yet according to the above you're saying mine should have update list, if this is the case then will the sony sdx30rn fit and still allow use of the steering wheel controls for the radio ? this is because I've seen one on fleabay and as I have a mp3cd player in my other car (a Ka) I would like to install one in the megane and not loose the display/hand controls
beginning to sound like i should have stuck with my 2005, no auto wipers, no auto headlamps, 2 less doors (that bit i like really makes me think I'm back in my old Audi coupe in the later 80's ha ha ), it's only saving grace is slightly more power and cruise control
by the way what's the difference with the headlights, are they any better on the 08 or just more expensive to fix ?

not quite accurate... there is a cross over period where you'll have a late phase 1 (usually first half of 2005) that were fitted with update lists and run .CAN-BUS. I know this as mine is one of those cars.

Yea the above is correct i have a late 2005 phase 1 car, it was fitted with an update list player, the one with AUX in. Although it now takes pride of place in a box somewhere in the attic.
Re: Tuner List To Update List?
well i am confused now?
i have recently purchased a 2005 grand scenic
the car came with a aftermarket cd/radio fitted with stalk control and display not working
i have purchased a update list radio which i believe is digital output....i have got sound but no display or remote control?
as my car is a phase 1 i thought i better try the tuner list which i believe is analog...but i get nothing from this unit just a beep if i touch a button.
all the wires fit correctly on both radios and i have traced back to stalk to check for any damage...also checked fuse in glovebox i have also disconnected the display wiring hoping this might reset the display.
am i missing something out somewhere or could i possibly have a fault with the display dash(i can see temp and time no problems)
any other ideas would be appreciated
any update should work or would it have to be for a scenic?
thanks again
