intermittent speaker sound

Postby Ozzy82 » Sat Dec 08, 2007 1:48 pm

Ihave fitted the pioneer ts q-131's to my car and were sounding great. till the rain came down :? Now when i put the music on, one or the other (or sometimes both) speakers dont work. i took the speakers out to have a look and it looks like water hasbeeen getting to the speaker connector. i have put the rubber seal (which comes with the speakers) around the speakers but that still dont help...

Any ideas peeps?

Did much water get to them...and where did it come from :?
The magnets can rust ,then the rust vibrates off till it sounds like theyre full of sand....or the coils just short out and only work when they want to..

theres no water in the door pockets either. theres probably a couple of drips of water behind the speaker but those drips are enough for it to cause the speaker to stop workin. ita doin my head in!! i feel like :banghead

mate ive been thro this...but i lost £250 on the speaker because the installer cut the rain deflector off (you didn't do this di you??

anyway if you have no cut them off, get some dynamat (2 off cuts probaby about 100mm wide and abt 100mm long.) take the speaker out and attach the dynamat so it extends the rain deflector.

also check your speaker...take em inside and connect them to your hifi (at lowish volume) and see if they cut out...if they do they are F**k'ed if not then they are ok.

also check any signs of rust.

check connections, (as you have done) tape all open connections up or seal them.

hope it helps
