Cabasse HU change?

I have a single CD Cabasse auditorium HU - I want to get an ipod connection. Renault UK no help whatsoever. Local ICE specialists want 6 hours work to rewire the whole car from the amp in the boot and then install an Alpine HU or similar with ipod connection.

Anyone know if the Cabasse can be changed over with another brand name HU by simply unplugging and putting a new one in?
Alternatively, any way to attach an ipod connection to what I've got? I have an FM transmitter but it's c**p!!

What year is your Meggy? The Cabasse has been changed recently to a different model that may not have the amp installed in the boot.

Many thanks for that. However, it is not clear if the ipod will charge or if it will be controlled via the h/u to scroll, search etc.
In fact, the example shown in the link is for a dvd aux input - would this work with the ipod?
My car is 2004 and the amp IS in the boot!

Any other ideas?
