improving sound system

I've bought a set of new component speakers for my megane 2004 but the quality wasn't changed
I found out that output of the original headunit is weak to shake those speakers.
I was going to ask that, you think buying an amplifier would be a better option or changing the headunit (is the headunit quality good enough to be amplified)?
do you guys have any details about original head unit?

I had an amplifier for a while in line with the headunit, worked well. I have the amp for sale if your interested, not going to lie tho there was a fairly great improvement when I upgraded the head unit too! If I was you tho and only adding a amp to stock radio or changing the head unit and adding no extra amp id go for amplifying the standard stereo..
I also have a sony head unit for sale of your interested, its the one with the ipod/mp3 player tray.
