FM transmitter from lighter socket

Postby roadki11 » Thu May 13, 2010 11:20 am

My apologies if this is posted in the wrong forum.

I have just purchased an 2 FM transmitters that plug in to the lighter socket on the centre console from asda (2 for a tenner), however both refuse to power up, no frequency displayed on its little LCD screen.

I have tested this with the engine running, I have made sure that the lighter element heats up.
The socket appears very tight.

Any suggestions on how to get this working? or have I just managed to get two duff blister packs?

Update:

The transmitters work fine in my wife's 56 plate authentique so it must be a problem with the socket on my 55 plate dynamique.

This wouldn't surprise me. There are legion of posts about plugging stuff into the sockets and the fuses blowing (sat navs, phone chargers etc). Don't know why though - the socket has been a standard since tobacco was discovered...

Best advice for Megane owners: sell it before it bankrupts you!
