Options for connecting iPhone to stereo

Hi fellow Megane owners (I'm on my 3rd Megane and 9th Renault in total).
I want to play the music stored on my iPhone through my car's speakers (its a 2005 Megane II hatch).
My options are:
- FM transmitter http://www.amazon.co.uk/Griffin-Technology-AutoPilot-Transmitter-SmartScan/dp/B00280SVXI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1246047751&sr=8-2
or
- new stereo with bluetooth
or
- new stereo with an Aux in slot
The fm transmitter is the cheapest option but is prone to interference from what I've read and its no use for taking calls in the car.
The new stereo with bluetooth will play the music and take the calls but is an expensive option.
The new stereo with aux in is the cheaper solution. However, while reading my radio handbook today, I came across a section that stated that the radio had an aux in port and that I could activate it by pressing the "Expert" button which I did and I duly turned the "aux in" on. However, there is no aux in slot on the front of my Renault factory fit radio/cd unit so I'm guessing that its at the rear of the unit. How hard would it be to take out the radio, fit a 3.5mm jack and connect my iPhone to it?
Or would I be better off getting a new stereo and fitting it myself (how hard is this - I'm fairly handy at DIY) or should I go to my local Halfords?
Finally, what make would be a good buy, i.e. Sony, JVC, Kenwood etc?
Finally, finally, will I lose my car's dash radio display or can this be connected to the new radio?
Thanks in advance
David
