confussed! I sure am! double din!

Hi,

Wey hey.. 4 year 0% is at an end... the wife 's 56 plate megane maxim is now hp free... to celebrate I am going to give the old girl a new stereo...

Problems...

I have my eye on the pioneer AVH-3200BT as it fits all our needs... for a decent price... but according to all aftermarket peoples the 56 (2006) megane is not compatible with double din units... but the 2007 megane is!... looking at our 56 and other 07 cars.. the dash/stereo layout all look identical... as do the odd 05 megane I have seen. Can anyone shed any light on why all suppliers say there is a difference... am I missing the obvious here?

Having removed the the renault single din mp3/stereo & underneath pocket.. there is a bar which looks easy enought to cut away... no problem, however there is a slight step/recess/varience between the stereo & pocket... is this a problem?

Thats a good stereo by the way, I'm thinking of buying one of the new Sony double dins that have come out but Cambelt time is coming up as it doesn't look like the car has had it done yet... sigh.... and I just paid for the Grand Scenic body work... sighh.....

I have searched but still find no definate solution to my question... is the 2007 megane facia different from the 2006 model? is it that the 2007 meganes do not have the horizontal bar that I would need to cut out to enable a double din unit to fit? and or does the 2007 megane have the recess/stepped varience between the outer trim of the stereo & pocket! once both removed?

Also if the pioneer double din unit has it's own fixing cage etc. can I get away with a facia trim like the CT24RT08 (2007 onwards) or do I need the complete kit like the CT23RT02A (2005 - 2007) or even CT23RT03 (2006 - 2008)

are they contricting themselves... all I know is that our megane has the newer front end (Sept 2006, 56 plate Maxim, similar to Dimonique) I would be most grateful for your help.

Its the same cage and fitting no matter what year of your car.

When i fitted my DD i used a connects2 2007 cage in a 2005 car.

The dash didnt change through out production. Cross member bar or not.
