Are Halfords taking the mick?

Postby misty2k » Sat Jun 05, 2010 6:54 pm

I have just bought an '07 Megane Coupe Cabriolet, and want to replace the manufacturer CD / radio for a new one with USB and AUX plug input.

I went to Halfords to get some ideas and like the look of a Kenwood they have for £99. Trouble is they claim that I need over £100 worth of gubbins to be able to keep the sterring column controls working.

Are they taking the pish? £100 sounds like a lot of money to me...

P.S. If you are / can recommend an independent (non-Halfords) car audio centre in easy drive of Brighton / Worthing I'd appreciate it.

just for steering controls it's a bit much but it's also probably Kenwood branded stuff. I know the Pioneer branded one for me was like £60-75. Third party might be cheaper.

£100 my arse!!!

Buy the head unit then go on over to https://www.connect2.co.uk.

Where you can find one of these...

http://www.connects2.co.uk/Instructions/SRN005.pdf

I think the going rate is about £25 and takes 5 mins to fit.

It will allow the center screen (clock) to contiune to display song/radio info and for controls to work.

I ordered this....
https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connects ... -9094.html

but I got something that looked like this.....
https://www.dynamicsounds.co.uk/connects ... 15349.html

That .pdf above was included with the item, and the new Pioneer DEH-4200SD is installed and working perfectly.

Yeah, installed with no problems at all, thanks. Sounding SO much better than before. Just need to decide on the rear speakers now. You quite happy with that speaker set up you have? Sound pretty good with the amp installed?
