Crazily Annoying Problem !! Please help :(

Postby Addison1010@msn.com » Sun May 31, 2009 5:20 pm

Hi all I've got a crazy annoying problem with my speakers and would appreciate some help if anyone can...

When I turn left about 90 degrees or so on a banked corner the front speakers cut out, and with a jerk of the steering wheel they come back on again... ive got the pioneer upgrade speakers and 2 sony subs in the boot... the radio is a Pioneer DEH-50UB. The subs stay working as normal when this problem occurs.

The only thing I can think of is a wire touching metal somewhere but I can't seem to find it...

Also I think it is behind the radio because when I pull out the radio and move the wires about the problem increases/decreases depending on where the wires end up.

This all started just before I changed the front speakers so it wasn't when I fitted them either.

I can't find a solution to this anywhere, be it the internet or the vast amount of car audio shops I've been to... they all look at me like I'm some kind of bomb that will go off at any moment :?

Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is driving me insane :x

Thanks,

Jon

You sound like you've already more or less found where the problem is. Have you disconnected and reconnected the radio inspecting the connectors on the way? Have you checked any crimped terminals and the speaker wires where they enter the plugs to make sure they are not partially just gripping insulation? At any connector do all the female connections look regular or have any opened slightly. Have you tried moving individual wires rather than the whole bunch? Are any pins close enough to touch? Presumably the speaker wires are thicker than standard, are there any stray strands of speaker wire shorting across? Is there any exposed loom that could touch something behind the dash?

If you cannot find anything there is an outside chance that something is shorting or intermittently disconnecting inside the unit as it's strange for both speakers to cut out. Does it happen when you disconnect the sub?

I would try temporarily swapping the front and rear speakers wires at the radio to see if the problem is then with the rears cutting out. If so, the problem must be at the radio rather than the speaker wires.
