Total novice installing a new stereo

Postby wee_steve » Tue May 19, 2009 6:04 pm

I've bought a new stereo to fit into my car, a Sony MEX-BT2600 into an 04 Megane with a Tunerlist type factory head unit.

I pulled out the factory one and was confronted with this:

There seems to be a white block of cables, a yellow black of cables and a black block of cables

The unit came with this cable:

I'm not trying to do anything fancy, I don't intend to connect it to the steering controls etc (at least at first) so all I'd like to know is where do each of the bits from the car fit into the lead provided with the stereo so I don't blow the crap out of my car or my new purchase!

And if I'm missing any connectors or anything, knowing that would be handy too!

Thanking you in advance!

The white block out of the head unit fits the black block with the most wires (speaker wires)
the black block out of the head unit fits the other black block (power wires)

hope this helps

Excellent thanks. Couple more questions though.

1. Can I safely assume then that the yellow block is for the display and steering controls and just leave it hanging?

2. The red and yellow power wires on the cable that came with the stereo appear to be interchangeable, should I just leave them as is (i.e. red to red and yellow to yellow)?

3. Will my dash display still show time and temp after i've disconnected the old stereo?

Cheers!
