Tunepoint

Postby Bmorgan85 » Thu Dec 11, 2008 5:02 pm

Hey, I've just got myself a MeganeRS 175DCI and am loving it!

In my old Fiesta I had a Blaupunkt stereo that I could plug either a USB HDD (80GB) or a SD card. The headunit could handle numerous folders/tracks on the memory card/HDD and was pretty good.

Now that I've got a megane I'm stuck between transfering the Blaupunkt into the megane, or buying a tunepoint.

The questions is though, what capabilities does the Tunepoint have? I know you can plug USB & IPod into it, but how does it handle the USB side of things?

- Does it have a maximum storage (eg you can only plug into something >8GB or upto 40GB etc)
- Does it have a maximum number of folders you can have in the root folder?
- Does it have a maximum number of tracks on the whole drive?
- Does the screen display Folder/Track names or does it just number the folders and tracks 1 - xxx

I've tried using the search function, and tried looking on the internet but cant really find much info in depth on it.

Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben, I've checked the booklet for the Tunepoint, and it has the following info:
There doesn't seem to be a limit to the size of USB device - the only restriction is that it must be an MSC (Mass Storage Class) device i.e. a device that a PC can recognize as external storage without additional software or drivers being required.
The max number of folder layers is 8
Max number of files is 32000
Max number of folders is 32000
It is not compatible with the following: DRM protected files, Non MSC devices, USB hubs, multiple slot USB card readers, multi partition devices.

Hope this helps, Gary

Thanks for the reply Gary, it does help to have some info on it...although I'm still a little confused...

So does this mean that you could have as many folders as you like on the root of the USB, but only 8 layers, and as long as there isn't a total of more than 32000 folders?

Folder 1
->Folder 1a
-->Folder 1aa
--->Folder 1aaa
---->Folder 1aaaa
----->Folder 1aaaaa
------>Folder 1aaaaaa
------->Folder 1aaaaaa
Folder 2
....
Folder 200
...etc

So theoretically if I had no subfolders, then I could have 32000folders in the root and it would still play?

I'm confused because someone on rs.co.uk said it could only take a maximum of 6folders in the root with only 100tracks in each?

Cheers,
Ben
