Adding a 6 CD Changer - is additional wiring required?

In Car Entertainment stuff (speakers/stereo/sat nav/etc...).

Adding a 6 CD Changer - is additional wiring required?

Postby MontaguMontgomery » Tue May 01, 2012 2:36 pm

I have bought a 6 CD changer to add to the standard stereo in a 2007 Megane CC.

Once I've removed the existing stereo does the necessary wiring already exist to simply plug it in, or do I need some additonal cabling to finish the job?

Many thanks for any help,

Michael

I belive there is just a cable that goes from the changer to the radio and that's all you need.. :-)

you need the joining cable from the headunit to the CD changer. EBay usually have a few or contact Renault breakers, mine cost £10 :?

Hi Tim2CV

Would you have a part code?

This seems to have stumped Renault. The local garage claim it isn't a Renault part. The local car audio shop say it is only a Renault part and no-one else can get hold of them. Renault UK initially said they wouldn't supply one as their records show the car didn't come with a CD Changer and the wrong cable could cause issues. Of course the car didn't come with a CD changer. If it had done then I wouldn't need the cable. Yet these are standard Renault parts!

The only ones I have seen on Ebay are for different CD Changers, not for the Renault original.

This type of thing

or this

You don't need the illumination cable, I never bothered with mine. TBH my lead was from mystery car as I just searched Renault CD changer lead, the headunit from a Laguna and the changer I think from a Megane (even came with free CDs!)

When talking with Renault it's best if you can to find a car with the parts your after and give them the number plate from that, my local place is the same, unless I do that they seem to have problems.

Thanks Tim2CV - that was invaluable! I've been searching Ebay for days, without success. I have now bought one of these leads, although the one asking £70 seems a bit ambitious as I could have bought the CD Changer complete with lead for less. (Wish I'd realised I needed to do that in the first place of course :banghead )

Thanks for your comment Joeishmather. I took the whole car with CD Changer in to the local Renault garage and they still told me this wasn't a Renault part. Not very helpful at all and unlikley to now get any more of my business. I've had Ford and Hondas for the past 12-15 years - and they seem to bend over backwards to help their customers. I guess I now have to get used to the French attitude to customers.
