Hi! Norwegian newbe with a question

Postby Hufse » Sat Oct 21, 2006 5:20 pm

I just bought a new company car a few days ago. A Volvo V70.
Cars are really expensive i Norway, so the dealer (who also sells Renault) gave me a good deal on a 04 Megane 1.4 5 door. It has about 25k miles on the meter.

The deal included 35mm lowering, brand new 17" rims/tyres and 15" rims/tyres for winter use. And a roof/back spoiler.

I've never had a special interest for Renaults, but I've always tought the Megane (03-->) was cool.

I'm taking it for a spin monday. But I'm already pretty sure I'm buying it.

Just wondering about the stereo. I'm gonna replace the speakers with new ones, and adding an amplifier and a active subwoofer box or case.

How good/bad is the headunit?
Is it best to change it too?
Has it an aux plugin?

I've got a Harman Kardon Drive for my iPod. If the original headunit has an aux plug I can use it would be great. I don't want to use the FM plug, becouse the sound stinks.

Or is it best to change the headunit with an Alpine, Pioneer (or other) with
full integrated iPod controls?

I don't need dvd or navigation, just a good sounding headunit for my iPod.

Thanks in advance for all answers, tips and advice!

Thank you!

The stereo by Renault is good for slighty deaf elderly folks.
You should exchange not only the radio but also speakers ( if possible with setting some silecing mates). The steering wheel controler can be also replaced with some special adapter.
So - do it.

And welcome to the gang.

Thanx!

I take your word for it. The HU is going bye bye.

What HU (and adapter if i need one) will you guys recommend?
Want to keep the steering wheel controls.

Are there any HU's out there who doesn't need adapter to work with the steering wheel controls?

I have replaced the front and rear speakers, so has forum member Alonso and probably others. And the HU as well.

Do a search in the forum, use the 'TS-Q131C', 'E1396', E1376' as keywords, you will definately find two guides, one for replacing the front and one for replacing the rear speakers.

As far as the HUs are concerned, you can install ANYTHING you want, even 2 DIN units, but if you want to retain the stalk and sub-display functionality, then Pioneer (what I have), Sony and JVC is the way to go, as those manufacturers produce adapters for the car.

Finally it's done.
Bought a 03 Dynamique (did I spell i right?) 5 door today.
Get it the 25. this month. (The dealer had to paint the bonnet).

Now it''s got 16" wheels, thinking of 17", and maybe a 35mm lowering.
But I'm now in the "comfort age" (30+), so I'm wondering of how much worse the ride will be?

Thanks everybody!

Anybody who can help me with my "lowering, not lowering" dilemma?

Thanx!

Decided to go for the 35mm lowering, and ordered some rims today.
OZ Michelangelo 8, 7x17", with Pirelli 205/45 - 17 tires.

Getting the car about the 25th this month, posting some pictures then.
